Potty training for boys over the age of three

I am a preschool teacher and I teach three year olds. I have one boy in my class who is 31/2 and he has no interest in using the potty. He wears a pullup and will not even let me or my assistant teacher check him. He holds both his pee and poop until he gets home, When I try to get him to go he gets upset and acts afraid. I do not want to force him for fear of him being afraid of coming to school. I have talked with his mother and she said he will not use the potty at home either but will go in his pullup. I have tried using rewards and stickers, we have talked about being a big boy and I have even told him I will buy him big boy underwear if he will go, nothing works. HELP!!

My son was the same way, and one of his teacher told me to buy him his favorite toy and put it in an unreachable place where he could see it, and tell him that he can get his new toy when he goes potty, it worked!!!

If he can hold his poop and pee, he is on his way to being potty trained whether he wants to be or not.  (My son is 3 1/2 and he doesn't bother about "holding it," pullups are simply too convenient, and he has no role models of his own age or just a little older, to see using the toilet all the time.)  If you can, be sure the boy sees the other kids lining up to use the toilet and in fact using it in a matter-of-fact way, it is possible that all the stress on the issue is making it seem impossible to him.
