Reoccuring fever every 3 weeks

My son is 14 months old and appears to be very healthy. Please read my post and help me

In June of last year my son started running a fever just after having his routine vaccinations, I assumed it was just a reaction and was monitoring him at home until the fever started getting up to 104-105. I took him to the doctor where he was tested for several illnesses and had blood drawn (high white blood cell count). We were told it was probably a virus and were sent home. Then every three weeks, until December, he ran a fever for 3-4 days. Each time his CBC showed a high White Blood Cell Count and when he had it done his C Reactive Protein (???) was high. Then as suddenly as they started they stopped, until now. He had RSV mid February and ran a fever as high as 104, then 3 weeks later had a fever w/high White Blood Cell Count, then this weekend we had the scarriest episode ever. On Wednesday he was perfectly normal, then late Wednesday night he woke up with a fever of 102. I opted to watch him and see what happened on Thursday and if was getting worse the Doctor said bring him in. Come Friday his fever was running 104, 105--we would give Tylenol/Motrin every 3 hours and the fever would stay down for 2 1/2 hours the shoot back up. When we went to the doctor he did the CBC and CRP tests, the WBC was higher than ever and the CRP was higher than ever. He decided to send us home and told us if it got worse to call him (since he was on call all weekend). On the way home his temp rose to 106.3 and we turned around and went back to the office. Once back there we were admitted to the hospital and immediately started the antibiotics (after another CBC, urinalyis, and blood culture was drawn). Well he still ran a fever in the hospital, it was 104.8 Friday night, and 101 on Saturday. We stayed and on Sunday more blood work was drawn. Even w/antibiotics his CBC was still a little high but his CRP had increased even more. The blood culture grew nothing and the urinalyisis was clean, the urine culture showed nothing.

My question to you is have you ever seen this before? I am desperate for some help. We are paying a fortune in doctor bills b/c we go 2-3 days every episode every 3 weeks. We are behind on our 1 year shots b/c everytime we end up w/some illness.

Please help me!!!!!!

Also, when we do go to the doctor his lymph nodes are sometimes a little enlarged and I think he may get headaches during the spells, b/c he will pull his hair and squint during the spells

I am so sorry to hear about your children that suffer from them reocurring fevers. I know personally how scary this can be. My son was 6 months old when he had his first spell. Out of no where he ran a fever of 105.4 and we were in the car at the time, I pulled over to make sure he was okay and at that time he has a siezure, and actually quit breathing on me for several minutes. I have never been so scared i my life. To make a really long story short, his fever came back about every 7 to 10 days, and he had every test possible ran. We spent about 15 to 20 days in a hospital out of every month. He was at Childrens hospitals, he seen specialsit, he had MRI, fluid toook of his brain, every thing. Last April I seen his ENT, and he asked me if he had his tonisls. Of course he did at this time he was a about 14 months old. So we struggled with this for what seemed like a life time. Needless to say, I made an appointment for him to get his tonsils removed in April last year. My son has not had a fever since Aprl, almost a year. The caue of his reoccuring fevers, and sickness was caused my microscopic infection on his tonisls. That wasnt visible by the eye. It may not workfor everyones child but I feel its defintly worth a shot. I feel like it saved my childs life. Good luck and God bless you all

We have been having the same thing with our son. He is now two and a half. It first started when he was one. Except he has always puked a large amount during the first few days and usually lasts for 4 to 6 days. He gets dark patches under his eyes and is quite fussy a few days before it hits so I can usually tell when the next episode is coming. During his spell I have been told by our specialist to switch from Motron, Advil and tylanol to keep the fever to a min. in the worst of it the meds. last for a half hour. He is so hot everything he eats cooks and he'll just bring it back up. Constant sweats and from head to toe he is radiating heat. even his breath is hot!!!
We have finally been getting some help. They are testing him for PAFPA
Periodic Fever Disorder. their is not much info on it as it is quite rare. At first the believed he had juvinile Arthritus Disorder, but that wasn't the case.
I hope this can help a bit. you should look into Periodic Fever Disorder.

OMG this is identical to my story. My son is now 4 years old and we have been dealing with this for a couple of years. He has every test and see every specialist there is. We even took him to Cinn. Childrens Hospital in Ohio.  He was diagnosed fever of unknown origin. They told me that as long as he wasn't having any other symptoms that he "may outgrow" it.  That is not working for me. Actually we are in a week long fever now, going up over 104.  Giving my child that much motrin and tylenol can not be good for him.  I don't know what to do!

If you open this link you might find that you are not alone. My son who is now almost 3 has experinced this since he was 2.It started on his second B'day.I have a ton of posts you can read them all if you like.It follows almost every specialist that we have seen. I took it upon myself to seek out a oncologist/heamotologist that was on our insurance.I explained the story and they saw us the very next day.sometimes you have to take matter in your own hands and find your own specialists to help you and listen to you.The people that were most helpful with our son was an Infectious Disease Dr and a rhumetologist. I really hope you get some answers. we got a few back for our son but he was still diagnosed as Fever of Unknown Origin. If you want to talk please leave me a note or message.

We have been having a similar problem with our 3 year old developmentally delayed son.  He had his first weird fever at 7 months.  They were pretty spread out until six months ago when they started happening every 3 to 5 weeks.  Two of those episode have been accompanied by swollen nodes in his neck.  His temp is usually between 102 to 103.  When it happened last April just a couple months after his 2nd birthday he was admitted to the hospital so he could be hydrated.  He had stopped eating and drinking anything.  He was there 3 days and they never found anything.  Of course, doctors have not been able to tell me why he is so delayed.  We have been to a geneticist, a neurologist and his pediatrician is a specialist for handicapped children who has had other tests run.  Everything about him is a mystery.  These fevers worry me a lot as they seem to be progressing.  I have been using some alternative methods that help the episodes go by smoother and keep the gland swelling down.
