Very Low MCV of 10 Months Old Baby Boy

We just came back from our son's 10 months' well check. The CBC shows: WBC 11.45; HGB 10.5; HCT 30.4; MCV 56; RDW-SD 32.9; RDW-CV 16.6 The HCT and MVC are very low. What can possibly be the cause? Can this be caused by formaldehyde poisoning? Thank you very much!

The pediatrician is sending his blood samples out for more analysis and is trying to get a verdict on whether it's hereditory or not. My son has been very healthy (at least appears to be, 75th percentil on both weight and height and is standing unassisted before 10 months). The doctor says that she will call me in a week.
We currently live overseas. Locals have this theory of formaldehyde poisoning can cause anemie and blood cancer. That's why I'm trying to validate that in the States. I will ask our pediatrician.

What does your pediatrician say?

I'm not sure anyone here can answer this question, b/c in this forum, there are no physicians to help.  Hopefully, your post can be moved where you will get more physician input.

But I'd first have to ask, what did your son's doctor say?  Where did the formaldehyde poisoning theory come from?
