Why is my 3 Yr old Brother is Always Sick?

Hello. I'm looking for advice and help for my 3 year old brother. He's frequently sick and is acquiring a range of illnesses such as the cold, high fevers, tonsillitis and viral pneumonia. When he was about only a year old he got severe bronchitis and was in hospital for a week. I don't know if that's severely weakened his immune system. But the main problem is this past few months, he's been getting high fevers (as high as 39-40.5 Degrees) tonsillitis and pneumonia. He'd get sick for 2 weeks then get well again for a week or so until he gets sick again. My parents have been going for the doctors every week and they've been suggesting that he may have likely gotten sick from daycare or the cold weather (since its winter in Australia right now). We've been giving him Dymadon for Babies for his high fevers & E.S.S and Augmentin for his pneuomonia. I have a theory that his immune system is really sensitive to changes in temperature and that's why our family's really careful when bringing him out of the house.

Another thing is that we don't know if he has asthma. Sometimes when he's sick, he's got this really hollow cough that sounds raspy and painful. It's not the phlegmy type when you know he's going to cough up so phlegm but it sounds really scratchy and painful. We've tried giving him the puffer for toddlers and it kind of helps a little with his breathing. But then he'll start coughing violently again within 10 minutes. I don't know if he has asthma because the doctors haven't told us anything about him having asthma yet. But   another scary thing is that when he's sick, he breathes really heavily out of his mouth and nose. Its as if he has difficulty breathing. I just really want to know what's wrong with him and if this is normal with 3yr olds.

Need help!!! :(

Thank you for that hotwings good information there. I know from my own family that what you have said can be true , I had 2 children with extremely bad tonsils and once they were removed they were well .,so parents would do well in asking for their children's tonsils be examined .

My son will be 5 in Dec.,but he stayed sick all the time when he was around two  For 6 months we stayed at the doctor office. The doctor would give him another anitiboic and albuterol for breathing treatments.Every time the fever and the cold like symptoms would come back.Every time the same treatment.I decided to take him to another doctor .That doctor looked in his mouth and said he has recurring tonsillits also he said that he needed tubes in his ears.We had the surgerys and he has not been sick like that with those symptons for three years. The other doctor never looked in my son's mouth,If she had it would have been very clear as to what was wrong with him. And the second doctor said that my son's lungs were clear and that all the breathing treatments were NOT necessary. It broke my heart knowing that for six months my child suffered.and took breathing meds that was NOT needed..But he is a beautiful and healthy little boy.Thank God for sending me to seek a second option.

What a good and caring sister he has, it could be he is picking up germs 'from day care when they mix with other children a lot, it happens .A good food supplement may help, build the immune system, so check out age group appropiate VitC and Vit B Complex. He does need a check up at the doctors with so much going on and especially with a possible asthma situation .good luck
