elongated lump on forehead

My son is 4 months old.  He has just recently developed a large elongated lump on his forehead (past 3 weeks).  He is also reaching to the right side of his head--actually on top of his head.  He doesn't show any signs of discomfort or pain, but at times, when he is perturbed (at times of hunger or when he is very soiled), he reaches for head.  I assumed initially that he had an itch so he reached for his head or maybe he had a headache.  But now, I see his large elongated lump and I wonder if this is normal.  Does he reach for his head because he "discovered and found" his head?  Is this large lump from the brim of his brow (nose) to the hairline cause for concern?  Please inform me.  I am a first time mom who has waited a long time for a child and I will admit that I am being a bit concerned just because I don't want anything to be overlooked.

Oh I just read another thread about a bony lump , and i replied there also.. Now i understand what you mean with enlongated and running from the top of nose to his hairline.. this could be just the metopic ridge.. if you google that, its more pronounced in some babies.. my son has somewhat of one. Other times it could be something that needs more attn like craniosyntosis (sp not right i kno) but that is quite rare.

I would get him looked at by your doctor... only because i am a worry freak.. any lumps that nevan has had on his head, i get checked out. The first ones on the back lower of his neck/head were lymphnodes at 2 - 3 weeks old.. he still has them and hes 10 mo old. Also he has lil lumps along his coronal suture on his left side which are tiny, but was reassured they were normal. You might need to have it checked for peace of mind.. it could be a cyst.. i kno so many babys who got one at around a couple mo of age, usually on the forhead above the brow.
