infant fever

My 1 yr old son has developed a fever since morning. He is running a temperature of 100-101F since 11 a.m. He is very whiny and tearful and less active than normal. He had no cough or cold, suddenly he got the fever. A similar incident of fever occurred on 30th January 2014, which lasted for a day. It was preceded by a bout of loose motions since 26th January 2014 which lasted for 3 days. It was treated with infant probiotic Enterogermina, infant zinc suspension Zn20 and ORS. No medication other than infant paracetamol was given for the fever. This time also, for the past 10 days he has been passing stools 2,3 times daily, every time he takes his meals. But the consistency of the stool was normal. But today he has not passed stool at all. Also for the past two weeks, since 31st January 2014 he has been tugging at his ears at night but no major bout of crying occurred.

Take your child to see a doctor.

When a young baby or toddler starts to pull and tug or rub their ear, this could be an ear infection.

With him having a fever and tugging at his ear, it is likely that he has an infection.  Get him to be seen by the doctor urgently.

Keep him wrapped up warm and cover his head and ears when you go outside.  He may be off his food, but make sure that he has plenty to drink, water, juice, jelly, soup if he will have that.

Best of luck.
Let me know how he gets on.
Best wishes.
