Son is sick.. now rash. with pics..
My son was seen in the er s days ago with bloody mucusy stool.... They took some cultures....which all cAme back negative for ecoli. And c diff... My son had been on keflex..... And the dr seemed to think thAt this was caused by the antIbiotics devastating his natural flora in his intestines... We were giving him yogurt to prevent this... As well as other suuplementation to avoid this.... Now.. He is still eXperiencing the diArhhea... I have seen no blood... But the color is green..like sea foam... I am trying to figure out how to post a pic om here of his rash... I callled his pediatrician... Who told me to give him benadryl... Since the er... He has only been eating foods like bananas...rice...and sweet potatoes. There was only one day where he didn't have diarrhea...now we are back to it again... Plus these huge raised rash pAtches all over his trunk... Back..sides and armpits... Any help Would be greatly appreciated

It could be a food allergy as from what I can see it looks like hives, is the rash itchy?

Yes, I'd say those are definitely hives, and in addition, bloody mucus in stool can be an indication of allergic colitis. Some allergies cause delayed reactions, so it can be hard to track down what is going on. I'd say if he hasn't yet had any allergy testing done, he needs it asap. With allergies, they can develop at any time. You likely won't see any reaction on the first exposure. With each exposure, the reaction can and likely will get worse. My daughter ate eggs for a couple of months before her first anaphylactic reaction. She requires an epi-pen. On the flip side, viruses can cause hives, and bloody mucus can be caused from the fact that he's been having diarrhea, which could also be caused by a virus. However, I wouldn't say a cold virus would cause this, and one would expect a fever with a virus causing his symptoms....what does his bloodwork say?? Any infections anywhere??

I would say your next step should be an pediatric allergy specialist. Start keeping a food diary and any symptoms, as well as ANYTHING you can think of in terms of his health. A lot of time, people don't realize that poor growth, poor behaviour, poor learning, poor development in general can be associated with allergy, as well as poor sleep, reflux, asthma, ear infections, tonsil/adenoid problems, etc.

Good luck

I ave decieded that I am taking him to his pediatrician and demanding a full panel of allergy testing. he also has intolerance to foods..so i think that food allergy is the way to continue this... the ER doctor that saw him when he had the mucus diarrhea said that is wa most likely due to the antibiotics.. however.. at this stage.. i dont think so.... i think its exactly what you guys aresaying.. hes allergic to alot of food.. and his intestines are tired of it. making the app today. thankyou you guys!!

That's great Mama! I should also add that if you continue to see bloody mucous, perhaps a pediatric GI consult should be considered. Good luck!
