I always encourage women to have POP procedures done by urogynecologists, the specialists for the pelvic cavity who are fellowship trained in these procedures. Many ob/gyns do these procedures but if a urogyn goes in, any/all POP concerns can be addressed properly. Not saying the ob/gyns aren't good drs, I just feel this is an area best left to the experts. Typically 6 weeks recoop time with a cystocele, 6-12 if cysto/rectocele both are done. Pain in hip area typically has to do with what they are doing inside repair wise as well as where laproscopic ports are placed. Women sometimes have sciatic pain post procedure if repair is not addressed properly. Much bruising is normal. I know it is very close to your surgery date but I would recommend you check your ob/gyn on the watchdog sites to see how she is rated if you aren't comfortable with upcoming procedure path-it will give you a better idea of her backdrop. I'll send you a separate PM with those websites. You may or may not find info on her, no info means no complaints filed.

Injection of mesh-like material?? Mesh is not injected, there are some injectables but is is not mesh. I would get more specifics from your dr if you go forward with the procedure with her. In the meantime I'll send those watchdog sites to you.

Cystocele surgery will be done by an obstetrician-gynecologist.  A rectocele will also be done, only if necesary. The surgery will involve injection of a mesh-like support.  She said to expect considerable pain in hip area due to the position that patient must be placed in. Also said there might be internal bruising.  Expected recovery time 3-4 wks.  But heard different from a woman who has recently had the surgery for both rectocele & cystocele.  She had hers in April & is still not fully recovered.

Is the physician doing your surgery a urogynecologist? What all is being fixed (there's 5 types of POP, cystocele and rectocele are most common procedures)? Once I know more about what you are having done it will be easier to send suggestions-please send more detail.
