PATM--have you tested for SIBO yet?

I have recently tested positive for methane dominant producing SIBO.  The link to the gut is now official.  Anyone else test for SIBO yet?

yes, positive for hydrogen gas producing SIBO, tested at Cedars-Sinai (the gold standard for sibo testing)...did the rifaximin alone (extremely expensive) and also rifaximin with neomycin, didn't help PATM

Thanks for the information soiledsystem. Can I ask how bad your PATM was to start with? I'm hoping the Rifaximin might bring my reactions down at least a little bit (yes, Rifaximin's extremely expensive: 200 euros for a 2-week treatment).
i had really bad electrical type PATM..200 euros a week isn't bad, i was paying $50 a day for the rifaximin
SIBO doesn't always get eradicated after the first round of antibiotics.  Were you re-tested to make sure you got rid of it?
I did two rounds, one without neomycin and one with....I didn't need to retest, I still had all the symptoms....going on the SCD diet helped the most, but I lost  too much weight
Thanks for sharing soiled system.  I believe you can rid yourself of this.  Keep up the good work!

I tried to get breath-testing during my latest gastro-enterology appointment, but the doctor didn't want to do it (I should've been more persistent).

I did ask him to give me a prescription for Rifaximin, just to try it out. I know most people on this forum aren't fans of antibiotics, but Rifaximin and Neomycin are the most scientifically-studied treatment options for SIBO thus far: "A combination of rifaximin and neomycin is most effective in treating irritable bowel syndrome patients with methane on lactulose breath test" (Google for the article). My PATM is already quite bad, so I don't see how antibiotics could possibly make things worse. Rifaximin is also recommended for secondary TMAU (i.e., TMAU caused by gut dysbiosis).

I haven't started the Rifaximin yet because I'm preparing myself first by taking probiotics and optimizing my liver health. I also bought some caprylic acid capsules to keep my fungi levels in check during the antibiotics. I'll supplement probiotics before, during, and after the Rifaximin, and I'll also take some lactulose to flush out the bad bacteria as fast as possible. I'll beg my doctor for Neomycin as well, just to make sure the course of antibiotics is as successful as possible so it can be a one-time thing.
