First Cold...I think

Hey girls.  My little one has been coming down with something for two days now.  He has red watery eyes and a cough that sounds very much like a chest cough (very raspy).  Could it be allergies and how will I know?  Rectal Temp was 99.5 this morning so no fever.  I gave him a little bit of Tylenol at 4 am to get him back to sleep.  He is 11 weeks old.  He is also nursing a lot less.  Only taking one breast during feedings and not emptying it.  Any veteran mother's out there that can help?  The internet said to call Doc if baby under 3 months has a cough....I would but it is Saturday.  Can I wait til Monday or should I call the emergency line.  It doesnt seem too urgent...he is still smiling and happy when we play just a bit more tired than normal.

Definitely a good idea and one I never thought of doing.  I just always tried to dose up on vitamin C myself so they would get some in the breast milk.  Thanks for the tip :)

I'm not sure the brand name of the ones I have but it's probably different here anyway. I live in Canada and everything like that is always different. I just went in the health food store and asked if there were Vit C pills for infants. You can mix 1-3 in with like a tbsp of warm water and it dissolves really quick.

Good tip Heatherm4 on the vitamin C pills that you can mix with water.  Where can you get those at?  Wonder if crushing up a chewable vitamin c would allow you to do the same thing.

I keep kids echinacea tincture on hand when they get sick and yes I give them chewable vitamin c as well.  Usually with a cold I just work to keep their fever down.  They may be losing their appetite and sleeping more which is normal when their body is fighting something.  Just try to nurse as much as possible as your breastmilk can help their body fight the cold.

I always even take vitamin C myself too when they are sick so they get it in their breastmilk too.  Let us know how everything goes.

I would say it's ok to wait if it doesn't seem to be bothering him and if he's not fevered or lethargic or anything.
I'd be worried about him not getting enough to eat. Could it be that he's stuffed up a bit maybe or having a hard time breathing while eating? I guess we all don't like to eat much when not feeling well though.
My DS had a bit of a virus in his eyes and I went to the health food store and got these vitamin C pills that you can mix with a tablespoon of water and gave him that for 2 or 3 days and it cleared right up! HOpe he feels better soon!
