new baby

KDQ
Hi mommies! My little one is 6 days old. At the hospital they told me to feed her every 3 hours. I've been setting my alarm to wake up through out the night. Sometimes she wakes me up a bit earlier but sometimes I have to wake her up. My question is when is it okay to let her wake me up instead of the alarm clock? Right now I realize she is little and sometimes has to be encouraged to eat. I don't want her to sleep through a feeding but I feel so bad having to harrass her to wake up through the night.

She is waking up between 3-4 hours now. Tonight is the first night I am not going to use an alarm. She has a doctors apointment tomorrow so I will find out how much she weighs now. I think knowing that she has put on weight will reassure me that she is getting enough.

I never woke up my baby for feedings at night, sometimes he slept 2-3 hours,  sometimes 4-5 I was ok with it cause during the day he eats every 2 hours so I know he's getting enough, how is your baby doing now? Waking up on her own?

I'm breast feeding also. She was 6lbs 15oz at birth. I know little babies need to eat more often. I set my alarm for every 3 1/2 hours last night to see what would happen and she woke herself up for each feed right before the alarm went off. I think she might be getting the hang of this! :-)

Congrats again on your little one!! I'm so happy you're on here too! My little girl was eating every 5 hours at first, then she gradually started eating more and closer together. I wouldn't let your little one go past 4 hours without eating. my daughter is 11 days old and i still have to wake her up every night, every 3-4 hours to eat. I'm breastfeeding though, so maybe she gets more full?

It only took my little one about a week to wake up every three hours herself.  Once that happened a few days in a row I stopped setting an alarm.
