Metformin

My DH and I have been ttc for over 2 years. I have been diagnosed with mild PCOS and mild endometriosis. I've been through one unsuccessful fresh and frozen ivf cycle. Because I can't afford to go through another round of ivf right now my gyn prescribed 500mg of Metformin to help with ovulation. I know that I ovulate but she thinks the Metformin/Glucophage might help me. Has anyone been on Metformin that can tell me what to expect? Are there any success stories for people with a similar situation? Thanks!

With PCOS you can usually actually feel yourself ovulating, both me and a workmate both felt it, it was like minor tweaking and maybe small amounts of cramping. I could time when I was going to get my period by that.

My blood sugars are pretty high, so I'm trying to get onto Glucophage, in hopes it helps my pcos and my blood sugars. If I knew about my diagnosis earlier, I could have gotten pregnant!  I've also gained around 40lbs and I don't know why, my stomach is stapled!

Metformin does not really help with ovulation. Generaly it is given because of pcos. Losing weight (if overweight) will help you to ovulate. Your doctor probably gave you metformin because you have pcos. Like Lori said she didnt ovulate while taking this, she started ovulating when she lost around 40lbs. I too have lost about 42lbs (but im on birth control) so i cant tell you if i ovulate.

I am currently on 1000mg. I have no side effects. I have only been on the meds for 2 months, and had a period in Jan, so we shall see if I have one in Feb too. Metformin has also helped me lose some weight too!!!
