Metformin Sickness and Diet

Hi All,

I am new on here and posted this same thing in response to another thread - but then thought I would pose it as it's own question.

I have been on Metformin - 1700mg per day - in two 850mg doses.  I get super sick both nausea and the other stuff.

Wondering if there is any special diet that might help?  Or times of day to take it?

Any advice is appreciated.  I think that it is working, but I hate being sick all the time and find myself not taking it to avoid being sick.

Thanks in advance.  :)

Im only on 500mg a day and I only got sick in the very beginning when taking it, but that was because I wasn't following a diet. Now that I am, no sick feeling. I go back to the doctor on Jan 4 and I've lost about 24lbs since starting it. Im hoping another possible 20lbs by that time. I'm thinking my doctor will up my dose when I go back, probably to a 1000mg or something. It's also maybe your getting sick because of the high dose ur on. My doctor started me out 500mg a day for 4 months.

Good luck.

Well you should take it with food also try to fallow a low carb diet. The carbs will make you sicker.

I have been on the medication since 9/11/08 and it does wonders. I'm finally not getting sick from it and it made me Ovulate.

Just take it, also if you get the runs you can take an over the counter anti-diarehea medication, i asked the pharmacist about that and that helped alot.

Good luck.
