Metformin -- did you change your diet and exercise routine?

I've been on Metformin for 1.5 months, NO WEIGHT LOSS!!............. I"m very depresesed and desperate. I've gained 20lbs in the past 2 years and I can't shed the weight no matter what..

After you've been put on Metformin, did you change your diet and exercise drastically to see a weight loss?

I'm very shocked to hear you are taking metformin on an empty stomach! No wonder you threw up! Has your doctor explained to you the purpose of metformin? It is to help process your food better when you eat, and control your insulin. If your not eating, and still taking the tablet, it's not going to help you lose weight, it is just going to make you sick, and further damage your insulin levels, putting you at higher risk of diabetes. If your not eating DO NOT take the metformin. It is only to be taken AFTER eating.

yesterday I have taken 1 metformin in the morning right after i got up, like I always do, on an empty stomach, like I always do. And... i puked my brains out 20mins later. I also stopped having diarrhea.

What food do you usually eat? I live alone and I work long hours, I usually get take out because well I dont' know how to cook, nor do I have the time to do it.

Occasionally I would have a very healthy meal, but sometimes it's really hard, especially during lunch, when you're in a hurry and don't really have time or the energy to think about what to eat. I usually just end up picking up dinner on my way home at the restaurant down the block, and it's a crappy super unhealthy restaurant.

I took Metformin for about a month....I got past the diarrhea stage but it made me have a tummy ache all day long so I had to stop....I also didn't lose weight when on it!

The best diet for women with PCOS is Low Carb!  But its a craptastic diet to come off of because if you don't watch it you will gain it back!

I may try the metformin again!

I do 3 days cardo and 3 days muscle training  - 7 lbs down! (2 weeks low carb)

I too am on metformin I didn't have to do anything to lose weight I have been on it for a month and lost two pounds maybe more on it. I can stand to lose 30 pounds and I weigh 177. I'm guessing it works different for different ppl does it not make you go to the bathroom?

I HAD to eat better and exercise for the Metformin to help me at all.  I didn't lose any weight with it until I did that.

From my experience with metformin, although just taking it didn't make any difference, the minute I started doing excercise and watching what I ate the weight just started falling off. Before I was on metformin, I could excercise and diet as much as I liked and it made no difference to my weight. So it has definately helped with weight loss when I put some effort. So it does help with weight loss, but only when you are already trying to lose weight. If that makes sense?

I've been on it for over a year and haven't lost a pound either. A friend told me to try Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels, so I started reading it. Many things in the book make complete sense so I am going to try her plan starting this week.
The basic premise is to each as much natural and fresh food as possible and avoid anything boxed or loaded with preservatives.
I've also started to increase my exercise (was doing 3-4 days of cardio and I'm bumping up to 5 with increased distances). Hopefully, the combo of those two things work.
Good luck!
