Metformin

My doctor just placed me on Metformin 500mg for 7 days, and then I will take it twice a day after that. I took my first pill today, and a little while later I got a headache and felt like I had to eat something. The weakness part went away, however I still have a headache. I was wondering how everybody eles' expierence with this medication was and if this really helps.

Thanks,
Niki

ok i am on metformin and the reason why u guys get that way is because its a pill for diabeties, (also used for PCOS) and your sugar levels go down with it so you have to eat with it. You take the pill in the morning with breakfast and evening with supper, and those who tak 3 pills should eat lunch with it!!  I know what i am talking about because i am a diabetic on 1000 mlg twice day and will probably be upped because my sugar is waky

I started Met about a week ago.  I would suggest eating your evening meal and then taking the medication after that.  Other than diarhea I haven't had much of any other side effects.  They told me it takes about a week to get used to the medication.

Your welcome!  I take my Met all at once with my evening meal.  I sometimes notice some days by the afternoon I get jittery and have to eat or drink something.  I used to have headaches all the time, and strangely, I don't get them like I used to since on the Met.  I did get one right after I started taking it along with an upset stomach.  It only lasted a day.  Then I had it again when I started the 3 pills, which also only lasted a day.

Thanks for your reply. Today I feel better then I did yesterday. Alittle bit of nausa and I do have a headache again (which I woke up with one, but seems to be going away). I go to my doctor again on May 4.

I am also on Metformin.  I take 500mg.  The first week I took 1 pill; second week 2 pills and then after 3 pills.  I haven't experienced a lot of headaches.  But, sometimes I do get weak feeling and the need to eat something.  Also, I had bouts of diarhea when I first started taking it.  I have noticed that the Met has decreased my appetite too.  I go April 16 to have my levels checked again to see where my insulin is at since I've been taking the Met.
