PCOS Thin and pregnancy

I recently found out that I have PCOS, but not the typical symptoms with regard to weight. I am very thin-115lbs. I have been told that it is more difficult for people with my type of PCOS to conceive. Is this true?

I agree, its been much more frustrating to be thin with PCOS, as you are told its more difficult to treat you, and Dr.s dont understand it as much.

I wish that all you thin cysters would get checked for gluten intolerance. i am a thin sister and so is my BFF and we have seen dramatic improvement in our symptoms since going gluten free. No baby yet but its only been 5 months and i am at least now having monthly cycles and no acne. It was hard at first but so worth it. I feel ten times better knowing i dont have to take drugs to help my body stabilize.

i am thin also. i have been the same weight for years, exercise regularly, and eat a high protein low carb diet as PCOS are supposed too. I am not sure where you got your information but I would check it again. There is a tendency for the overweight crowd to attribute things to the 'thin people' as the result of an eating disorder. There is not an obvious link between an ED and PCOS. For most thin people its a genetic thing, and to have someone tell them it''s their fault when they cannot do a single thing about it is disgusting. Shame on you. You have no idea how hard it is to be a thin person with PCOS, because we do not have the same options. I can't even take Metformin because of risks associated with weight loss. Instead I deal with the side effects of pre-diabates until it becomes more. We suffer for our genetics. You shouldn't be giving out such biased and cruel information to people looking for honest help.

I am now a 50 yr old who was diagnosed PCOS as a 22 yr old.  Did the whole Clomid thing in the 80's for 2 yrs.  and couldn't get pregnant after a first miscarriage. I was extremely thin and had high metabolism .  Luckily I had an old fashioned doctor who suggested that I relax, take some Robitissin (thins cervical mucus and makes it easier to conceive)  and enjoy my husband.  6 weeks later we were pregnant with the first of out 2 sons one who will be 25 and one 22 now.  I can tell you now thinness is not a problem anymore. Ha! Trust God with your family planning and put it in is hands and take the pressure off of you.

I was told I had pcos about a year and a half ago. I am thin about 5"3' and weigh around 100 lbs on a norm day. I had all the tests done to make sure that is what I had. I always wondered why I never got preg b/c my bf of 6 1/2 years of no protection with my bf. now I am 23 and we wanted to really try nd have a baby so I went to my reg obgyn and talked with her and she gave me 50 mg of clomid to take on day 3 of my per and i had to take it for 5 days and then try every other day for about 3 weeks. I went to the doc with period sympt and found out it worked first time around. now i am 6 wks and 3 days along and just had my first u/s today and everything looked good and the heart sounded good and now 104 lbs. The doc started me on prometrium 100 mg orally every day until i get to about 10-12 wks to reduce my chance of a m/c. from everything i have read it is really a good chance for me! so you still can get preg so just talk with your docs!!!!

Hi, I too am diagnosed with pcos and am 52kg, 5.5 feet tall, so am pretty thin. But I do have some excess hair on my cheeks and on the upper lip though it isn't very noticeable. I get periods once every 30-40days. I underwent ovary drilling this month as clomid/letoval/metamorphin didn't work for me. Hoping that the drilling does the trick.

I have and always will be thin, I eat every few hours and decent meals... its nothing to do with any sort of eating disorder, from what I read the ones who are overweight - develope these disorders, because they cant control their bodys, for us thin-cysters there isnt much we can do... me personally - have never had an eating disorder, I remain stable at 51kg, even when I try to put on weight!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I found out I also have Celiac Disease, which probably is the reason I'm so thin. It's an autoimmune disease where your body produces antibodies that attack the lining of your small intestine when you eat foods with wheat gluten in it (a TON of foods have it), so your stomach doesn't absorb enough nutrients and basically makes you malnourished. It can cause infertility, and there seems to be a correlation between it and PCOS. The only treatment is to completely eliminate gluten from your diet, meaning you can't eat anything with wheat, oats, barley, rye, malt, etc. in the ingredients.

Look it up and if you have a bunch of the symptoms, get tested cause it's nice to have an answer! I'm hoping after a few months on a gluten-free diet I will gain weight and be able to get pregnant!

I also have thin PCOS.  I am 5'6 and 115 pounds.  I have high testosterone, have infrequent periods, and have cysts on my ovaries diagnosed by ultrasound.  My dr. says I definitely have PCOS.  I got pregnant last year after 3rd round of Clomid.  Unfortunately our son was stillborn in April.  We are trying again with no luck.  I will be trying 100mg Clomid and Metformin next month.  We're really hoping to get pregnant soon and get to be able to take a baby home with us!

Hi, I'm 25 ans also thin with pcos, my only symptoms are absent periods and cysts.  I have been ttc for over 2 and half years now, from everything i have read and been told by doctors thin pcos is the hardest to treat.  We don't fit the normal pcos so normal treatments tend not to work.  Everyone is different so maybe simple treatments will work for you.  I have done 5 rounds of clomid and i did not ovulate with any cycle, next week i start follistim injections.  My testosterone and insulin were both normal (high end of normal), were you hormone levels abnormal?  If they were you would be closer to typical pcos and easier to treat.  My bff has thin (105lbs) pcos also, her insulin and testosterone were both very high  she took clomid and metformin and got pregnant on the second round! I'm attending her shower this weekend actually.  So I am sorry if i have given you bad news but like i said everyone is different, just bc i am having a rough time doesn't mean you will. good luck!!
msg me if you need anything :)

I also was diagnosed with PCOS 3 yrs ago and am very thin (barely over 100 lbs), though the diagnosis was based on my periods getting farther and farther apart, and on blood tests that showed that my estrogen and testosterone levels were both way too high. However, I was regular until I started my first full time job then got engaged and started planning my wedding (major stress overload!!), so I am hoping my problems were a result of stress. I had been on birth control since then up until I stopped 2 months ago. I have not ovulated yet but I'm hoping it's just the normal delay from going off the pill. I am going to start Vitex (chasteberry) and see if that helps me start ovulating again. I really want to start TTC soon!

I also have that subtype of PCOS, I am also very thin with none of the characteristic outward traits (its really frustrating and hard to find information on the differences).  I just started taking estrogen to help with my hormone balance, about a month ago.  (i've never used birth control before) but I just recently had to take Plan B after an incident.  I am kind of worried about how my body might react overall, to the crazy hormone changes I'm subjecting it to.

Thanks! I hope you are right. Several friends in the medical field along with my doctors believe that PCOS thin is a "hard nut to crack". Believe me, I do have PCOS because they have done ultrasounds to prove it and I ruptured a cyst back in April 2008....I thought I was going to die. It was the worst pain I had ever felt in my life!!  I hope you are right and it will be easier than I expect to get pregnant. Good luck to you if you are trying as well!!! :-)

i've been reading up on PCOS as i'm newly diagnosed and while i may be wrong, i haven't come across anything like this. In fact, the opposite should be true since most of the doctors (from what i've read) will actualy tell their patients with PCOS to lose at least 5% of their body weight to HELP with fertility!
While you're not the apparent PCOS norm....i think this may benefit your fertility! Again...i may be way off but this is what i know from MY research on the subjet.

Also...try www.soulcysters.com
They have a lot of helpful informaton about pcos!
