irregular periods and my fertility!

I am 31 years old. I became fertile when I was 15 years. I very second one was 6 months apart. Then after they typically used to be 2 months apart. Slowly it started to be 3 months to 4 months of gap period. It is true that since i went through a lot of stress periods in life, I observed that my cycles started getting longer. The last two periods of mine were 5 months and 7 months apart. In 2002, I went for a check up with Gyno and she did some tests with me on blood and ultrasound etc. She expressed her opinion as that i do not have any problem in ovulating cycles, but the eggs cannot break the walls of the ovary and hence get degenerated with the ovary. She expressed her opinion that I might not get any problem in getting pregnancy. As I believe to loose my immune system, I did not take any pills till now to correct my periods.

Now I am 31 years old and the most recent one that I had was on Dec 29th, 2007. I am worried as I see many view points on the internet. I don't know what to do to regulate my periods? I am planning to get married. I am not sure if I need to appraise of my would be about this or not! Please help me out.

I can say that metformin has worked for me!  When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I was going months and months without getting my period, and it would have to be induced with provera to get it sometimes.  I've been on metformin for several years, and for the first time in my life, my periods are almost regular!  In fact, last month I had my shortest cycle ever - 31 days!  That doesn't mean I'm ovulating though.  If you are not getting your period, it is not good for you and can cause more problems if it builds up inside - that's why they used to induce mine.  You should always see a doctor if you don't get it within a couple of months.

ask your doc about metformin.. I have read so much on line about metformin actually regulating women's periods when they have PCOS.. that way you don't have to take birth control pills if you are wanting to conceive...
