weight loss

hi there lovely ladies!
ok this may seem a bit of a rant, but I am so frustrated!
I an 23 and was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago, i am on the pill, and was simply told by my doctor, exercise more and eat right (which is a bit suss as you'll see below), i can deal with the dieting, i can deal with the random periods and i can deal with the excess hair (my mums italian so it was kinda on the cards already)
but i cannot deal with the weight!
i'm not obese and considered a curvy girl by my friends and family, which is nice.  but i am a circus performer, at circus school, and we get weighed and measured at the beginning and end of every term, as a positive, "look how well i'm doing" thing and every time the others get weighed and measured they are loosing weight and gaining muscle, and when i get weighed and measured NOTHING CHANGES! i do at least 4hrs of high intensity exercise 5 days a week and nothing happens. and i'm worried i'll get a talking to about my dedication to the course if something doesn't starts happening soon.
i keep to a low gi diet... with the occasional chocolate bar... it's my weakness
none of my friends understand what i'm going through and just think i'm lazy.
i just want to look good in lycra like all the others, and not be told, "it's ok cause you're funny..."

anyone else going through something similar? anyone have any tips?

I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients. It is also used in weight loss. For me it has helped with my PCOS because I am having regular periods and it has helped me lose weight. Talk to your GYNO about it!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since you are in circus and since you need a good weight control, it is best to get PCOS treated. There are various approaches to treat a polycystic ovary. First of all insulin resistance has to be checked and corrected by a dose of metformin. Then regular check ups have to be scheduled and you put on low dose birth control pills to regularize the cycles first. Once this is corrected, regular ultrasounds will be done to assess the status of the ovum and accordingly drugs prescribed. At times laparoscopy is done and cysts punctured. Diet and weight control are also important part of therapy and you need to be under a good nutrition expert. Consult a gynecologist and get this treated. Take care!
