Does a positive OPK mean you are releasing an egg?

I took a first response "fertility test" to see if I was having the right "LH" levels. I took this test on CD3 like the booklet said. If I read it correctly, I am allegedly "fertile", lol.......I doubt it.

Been TTC #1 for 6 years. Had a miscarriage on Halloween 6 years ago today ;(

SO....I took a Clear Blue OPK test, the one with the smiley. I got my SMILE on Friday and wondered if this means an egg is being released, or is it just telling me that my hormone level is correct?

I BD'd like a mad woman but just wondered if these OPK's are even worth all the money we spend on them? ANY stories, comments, jokes, or cussings are welcome! Haven't been on this board in 6 years!

I bought the clear blue ovulation test, the one that shows high fertility and peak. I started getting the flashing smileys on day 10 and got them everyday until I ran out of tests. I felt pregnant so I took a urine test and it was negative. I continued to have symptoms so I took a blood test and it was negative. I gave up hope for this month but bought a box of 20 tests for next month that just show LH surge with a smiley or no LH surge with a "O" I took one for giggles at the end of my cycle and got a smiley!! The next morning I got a "O" did I miss my ovulation?

No problem! I'm glad to help.  When I realized that I wasn't ovulating, I didn't know anyone who had gone through this or had to test for ovualtion, so I really had to figure it out on my own.  I'm glad I can help anyone lol

Goodness that is AWESOME! Well, I had googled around and saw that many girls were saying that just because they got an LH surge didn't mean an egg would pop out, BUT yours sure as heck did, so I am hopeful!

I am thrilled you responded and sure appreciate it! 6.5 months along, that's just awesome!!

I used the Clear Blue Digital ovulaton test when trying TTC.  The smiley face means you LH level is at the point to release an egg and sometime in the next 24-48 hrs you will ovulate.  We got our smiley and had sex that day and for 2-3 days after.  We are now 6 1/2 months pregnant.  It was well worth my money since I had stopped taking my birth control to TTC and for the first time in my life, my periods were extremely irregular and there were some months I didn't ovualte at all.  The first month of using this test and getting a positive, we were able to concieve! Good luck!

thanks so much for responding! i think i confused myself AND this post! i took this new thing First Response has out called the FR Fertility Test For Women, it says to take it on CD3 to see if you are even fertile!

THEEEEN, i took a regular OPK on CD 16 and got a smiley.

sorry about that. my post made no sense when i re-read it.

so this new fangled fertility test says i "passed" whatever that means. so i went ahead and bought OPK's and sure enough, i got that smiley face. so then we did BD as much as possible.

my question really is, just because an OPK detects a surge....does that mean an egg is going to pop out? i swear i am honestly lost about all this. i just hate to spend so much money on a test that is useless!!

i made an appt with an actual RE for 16th of Nov. i am so tired of all this worry. never been to one before so i have no idea what it will be like.

i appreciate you trying to help me!! thanks so much!
are you TTC?

Sounds like taking the OPK on CD 3 is extremely early since you would still be bleeding from AF I am assuming? and if thats the case you wouldn't have ovulated. "Generally" speaking they say you can ovulate normally around 14 days before your next expected period or based off of any medication you can also determine ovulation. I would suggest for you that you test your temp everyday as soon as you wake up and that when you see a a spike of at least .4 degrees that usually means you ovulated, maybe that will help so you dont have to buy tests? btw they have amazing little cheapie tests on amazing too since I know the digital can get expensive. Hope that helps SSBD
