How do you prepare for pregnancy

I was pregnant years ago at 20 ending with a miscarriage at 6 weeks 4 days, my baby never had a heartbeat. I want to know what type of things I can do to try and prepare for trying to get pregnant. I'm currently 38.

Try to conceive at the age of 38 is challenging but its possible.  All you need is to taken care of yourself and always be positive about the results. There are few things you must be aware of; Record your menstrual cycle and ovulation so that you must be aware of the date of your ovulation. Just before ovulation when a woman is most fertile, the amount of mucus increases and it also becomes thinner, clearer, and more slippery. When cervical mucus becomes more slippery, it can help sperm make its way to the egg, have sex during your fertility time (generally 4-5 days before ovulation), maintain a healthy body weight, eat balanced diet, avoid heavy exercise, say no to smoking and alcohol. As you are at the age of 38 now, you are strictly recommended to follow all these measures. Call a doctor if you a trying to conceive from a long time and never get positive results. There are many other options of having child.

You've received good advice above.  Lots and I mean LOTS of women have babies now in their late 30's!  Tracking and charting was tedious for me but worth it.  I really knew my cycle.  I got to understand exactly what the average length of time of my cycle was, how I felt as it went on from day to day, etc.  I used something that I had success with which is the clear blue ovulation monitor.  I never got the hang of ovulation test strips, they always looked like I was ovulating to me. But this clear blue monitor was something you used a pee strip for and it read hormones off of it and gave you a digital read out of your best to days for conception.  It wasn't super cheap but have seen that you can get them now inexpensively at places like ebay.  That was really a great thing for me.  Remember that it takes the average couple a year to conceive.  The above about being healthy is very helpful too.  Good weight, good rest, good exercise, etc.  good luck

Hello Flutterbies, I would say to take care of yourself, be active, eat well (organic, no processed food, lots of fruit and vegetables, lean meat, fish, and good fat (avocado, nuts, fatty fish like salmon, rainbow trout, etc...) take pregnancy vitamins as soon as possible, it will provide your body the nutriments deficiency if necessary and folic acid to avoid fœtal malformation like spina bifida.

Make sure to follow your cycles (there are plenty of good apps you can use if you are regular), you can also use ovulation test (like a pregnancy test but to detect ovulation hormones in your urine). Reduce your alcohol consumption, no smoking same for your partner ( if he can abstain not more than 2-3 days for sperm concentration before intercourse even better ; )

If nothing happens after three months, since you are not getting younger (don't take it bad, I've been trying since 35 naturally, and just miscarried after 3 years of fertility treatment for unexplained fertility), it is a fact, women fertility decrease drastically after 35, to be almost nul after 40 years old, do not hesitate to go consult with your partner in a fertility clinic to run test and take so help or advices that will help you conceive a healthy baby.
