quad blood test

I am 36 years and 17w3d and i had the quad blood test done and results showed  a slight elevated risk for downs. i now need to decide if i want to do the amneocentis. Anyone else had the amneocentis? How was it.

Suprise5: Like you i was offered the amneocentis but because of risk of miscarriage i knew this wasn't an option for me. There are new non invasive blood test that can be done as early as 10 weeks. i had the harmony test done. All they do is draw two vials of ur blood. With this new test they can even tell the sex of the baby. They test for all three trisomy disorders. the other names of the test are called maternity21 and verify. ask your doctor about these test instead of the quad screening done at 16 to 18 weeks as the quad screening gives alot of false elevated risk as you increase in age. these new test are said to be 99% accurate.

I chose not to due to two reasons, 1) it wouldn't change my decision and 2) the risk for miscarriage. With technology as advanced as it is, I am not always sure how accurate 'elevated' is. Most women I know who have had a slightly elevated risk were put under undue stress and their babies turned out not to have Downs. Being older usually means being more of a high risk which also means more ultrasounds. There will be signs via ultrasound as well if your baby were to have it without the invasive amniocentesis. Ultimately  the decision is yours. Good luck.

I'm 36 and 8 weeks pregnant. I was just about to post the questions my dr said cuz of my age there are more testing done and I could have an amino . I know 100%  I'm not doing an amino but what other test  will they offer because of my age. My dr said we would discuss the testing in my next visit.

I had a 1/110 after the quad screening. i didn't do the amneocentis because of the risk for miscarriage. Since i would keep the baby regardless. this is why i chose the non invasive blood test. i wanted to be prepared in case extra medical was needed.

I'm 38 and currently 24w1d. I was told the odds were 1/121 for downs associated with my health we decided to wait it out. In my quad screening it came back that there was a "substancial" amount of evidence to support that the odds were 1/12000+ now. With less risk of any other issues as well. Amino wasn't worth the risk. It is what it is. Would you not want a baby if it had special needs?

I fully understand wanting to know and being prepared. I just think that the risks are to great. My opinion anyway :)  that's great everything seems to be doing good..  Best of luck

If i had known the stress it was going to cause i probably wouldn't have had the original test done. i didn't do the amneocentis because of the risk. I chose the harmony test because there was no risk to the baby. i wanted to be prepared if he did have downs syndrome so i could have care in place at birth.

Just wanted to update. thank you for your response. i took the new harmony t-21 test. It was a blood test of my blood and is said to be pretty accurate. my results came back today and puts me at a low risk for all three trisomy disorders.

Thank you for your response. That is my problem now. if it won't change my decision do i risk it to know or just for my peace of mind. Babys daddy is concerned about risk also especially since my doctor says there is less than 1% chance of the baby being born with downs. and with better ultrasound i would probably find out eventually anyway because they would be looking for it.

Hi I've not had one but ALWAYS refused to...  My mom had it done she was little older and pregnant she ended up losing the baby....  Not trying.  To scare you but I don't like amnio and usually with a Slight elevation the babies fine.  It's your personal choice its not often it happens but my mom happened to be that ONE ;(  I've also got a question.. If the baby is downs will you keep it anyway?  You don't have to answer me just to think about urself if ur going to anyways idea weight the options.. Best of luck...
