She may realize what she is doing and wanting to change. Its not too late to seek help, rather if its for herself or a friend. I dont agree with drug use while pregnant, babies are completly innocent. But I am happy for anyone who is looking for help to change.

People dont take drugs because they are  selfish, they take drugs because they are addicts & addiction is complicated & different from person to person ..
Lets not forget the diversity of addictions ..some might say the same about someone who is addicted to food & is obese & pregnant ?..are they just as irresponsible fir putting there baby at risk of diabetes?..does that make them unfit to be a mother? Does exposing there baby to suck risks & the baby going through withdrwal make them a bad person?..no it doesnt ,not in my view anyway
Some people are so quick to judge ..

Nikilamb how could you say she's not going to be a good mother? You don't know her. She's asking a simple question. Don't assume she's using just because she asked. Be nice! Would you want someone saying that about you. Don't judge people!

Well if you are asking this question one you are either pregnant and doing drugs or know someone that is.if you are I suggest you give your baby up if you did drugs while pregnant your obviously not going to be a good mother. If its not you and some one you know I would probably contact child services to get the baby into a good environment when it's born.

I think its important to keep things in perspective..yes they test babies for drug & alcohol however they only so dependant on babies apgar score at birth or if the baby shows sign of addiction with drawal after birth ..the priority is the baby being safe & having its medical needs met if its going through withdrawal ..the priority is not prosecution of the mother ..

Definitely. ...the best bet to avoid the child being taken is to talk with the doctor in advance about drug use and they'll try and get you help as opposed to the bad outcome if you don't disclose the drug use...that's when cps gets involved and you could have the baby taken, you can be fined, etc. Depending on your state laws.

I know the baby is for sure. And if they find drugs in its system they will bring child walfare in and sometimes not even let you take the baby home! Which I for one think is a good thing!

I believe the newborn is tested if illegal drug use is suspected.  If the newborn tests positive the mom can face charges depending on the state laws. Health care workers are required by law to report suspected abuse/drug use.  If you know someone battling drug addiction while pregnant a pregnancy counseling center can help. There are anti-addiction drugs which are safer for the baby than illegal drugs.
