10 weeks & No baby :( Possibly a blighted ovum

Update- I am back from my vacation which was wonderful.   However, the day upon leaving I had an abdominal and a transvaginal  ultrasound done and the technician could only see the sac. (blighted ovum)  On the last try she did another abdominal and she seen a very very tiny white mass, but said it was more than likey just the sac coming apart.    I am supposed to be nine to ten weeks pregnant.  I had a feeling something wasn't right when I stared losing most of  my pregnancy symptoms.   They are not 100% sure so I have to go back in a week or two do get blood and ultrasounds done again.  But, if I was pregnant my calculations would have to be way way off, and I used a ovulation monitor kit and kept track of everything on a calender.  Plus, I got a positive PG test back 4 days before my missed period, and then on the actual day I was suppose to start is when the doctors confirmed I was PG.  So, I don't think there is any way my dates could be off.   I have had some spotting, but not much at all, and I have had NO cramps.  I've actually felt great!!!    I would think if I was going to miscarry this far along I would be having pains?  Has anyone had a blighted ovum? How long did it take your body to rid of the sac?    What do you ladies think?

Cherie, I am so sorry you are going through this.  If it is indeed a blighted ovum, it sounds like it is also a missed miscarriage.  I had one like that...no real sign of miscarriage, it was picked up on an ultrasound at 8 weeks.  If it is a miscarriage, it can sometimes take a while for your body to realize it.  With blighted ovum, your HCG levels can continue to rise and you can still have symptoms.  I wish you much luck on your next ultrasound and will keep you in my prayers.  Amanda

I haven't had a miscarriage yet.  I am not even cramping and I feel good. :)  Except for being a little bit concerned of having one and being alone and in pain.    As far as we know right now there is no baby in my belly, only a sac was formed.  No fetus was formed. (Blighted ovum).  I beleive that makes for an easier miscarriage if I read correctly. I am supposed to be hearing back from my doctor soon to answer some of my questions.  I was told to come back in two weeks for another ultrasound, but I'm not sure I want to wait that long to find out what is going on.  If I am going to miscarry,   I 'm not sure if I want it to happen naturally or get the D&C.  If the D&C causes less blood loss and less pain then I may opt for that.  But, if it is as risky as doing it naturally I may just wait it out.  I am uncertain at this point.  I highly doubt that I will try to get pregnant again, I couldn't go through everything I've been through again, and don't wish to either. :(
I just read another post by a girl who said she was also ten weeks and there was no fetus and is waiting two weeks just as I am.  I am going to send her a message!!

Oh, Cheri I am really sorry. Believe me I know how hard it is. With my first m/c, my symptoms started going away around 7 weeks and when I went in to my old doctors office she finally did a u/s a 10 weeks and I found out I lost the baby around 7-8 weeks. Just like you, I thought, "wow at 10 weeks I thought I was pretty much out of the danger zone". But with that being said, it is very common for symptoms to come and go so there is no way either of us would have known.

Hopefully your body will heal soon and your heart and you will be ready to start ttc'ing again in no time.  Glad to hear your vacation was great, that is always so well deserved!!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear your news.  I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum back in October 2007.  I was given a prescription for cytotec around week 8 and bought the pills but opted to miscarry naturally.  That happened about two weeks later.  It was a hellish two weeks and I still had pregnancy symptoms up until the final week.

My AF has always been heavy and I feared taking the cytotec.  But I think in retrospect it might have been better to take it.

sorry cheri. this is very mysterious. i've never had a blighted ovum. but i thought i'd share that i have never miscarried on my own. it's always caught on the scan and i have never cramped/bled on my own before they do a procedure or give me that cytotec. good luck.
