CVS testing vs. Ammnio...

ok...so I am considering now going w/ the CVS testing instead of the ammnio...1. B/c you do it at 11 wks rather than 15 so if there is a need to terminate its obviously much sooner. however...I have some questions...while yes, i did already speak to the genetics counselor on the phone and she answered some questions I would like to ask you ladies as well...ok....1.  My dr. told me the CVS is painful? If so how painful???  2.  The genetics counselor told me the results are exactly the same for CVS as Ammnio they are both about 99%.....

Any info you all can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nicole

I has a CVS in November at around 10.5 weeks.  The doc used a vaginal catheter.  It was virtually painless, just uncomfortable for a few seconds.  The doc was able to obtain a sample easily.  I had my CVS the week of Thanksgiving and it caused my FISH result to be a little delayed, it took 4 days to get them.  I learned that my baby is chromosomally normal and is a girl!  I am 38 y/o.

I planned on a CVS before I learned that I was pregnant.  It really gave me peace of mind, not that I don't worry at all.  I do.  I am nervous about my upcoming 20 week ultrasound but it would have been very difficult to wait for the amnio.

Best wishes...

I also had the amnio which was not painless.  My doctor did not recommend the CVS because the risk was higher than the amnio.  I had my amnio at 17wks and got results within a few days.  No complications at all.

I had amnio and not CVS, so not certain if I can be of much help, but I can tell you that Amnio was almost painless for me.  I too had been told it can be very painful, but that was not the case at all.  It was also very quick.  It is also my understanding that both the risk associated with the tests and the results are pretty much the same.  Wish I could be of more help, but I do wish you well.  Take care.
