35 with high tryglycerides

Hello!  I haven't been on this site in forever but I am thinking about having another baby.........but... I turned 35 in December, I have already had 2 c sections and I just went to the doctors for a physical and my cholesterol is high.  What worries me is my tryglycerides are really high at 315.  Being that I am already 35, still about 20 lbs overweight from the last pregnancy with high tryglycerides and a family history of cardio I am on the fence about what to do.  My husband and I really want another baby but I don't know if its a good idea given the odds against me.  I am on weight watchers and hoping to loose some of this weight.  My fear is a blood clot from surgery.  Any thoughts?

I can't really fully address the health issues and it's good you are working with your Dr.  I suspect that your Dr. may help you try to find solutions if this is what you want and I also suspect that they are there.

I can address the age thing.  There are a lot of misconceptions as to the risks of having babies over 35.  Yes, there is a higher risk of chromonsomnal issues, but in all honesty, it's still rare.  And sadly, most of those babies miscarry.  For me, having a child older was absolutely the right thing for a whole variety of reasons.  There are so many of us out there now, so don't let a mere number deter you.  Good luck!

Thanks for your quick reply!  I haven't seen my ob yet to ask him.  I go to my regular doctor on Monday to discuss my lab results.  I got a really horrible post surgical infection after my last child was born and that in itelf is terrifying to think about having to go through again.  I guess I will talk to my ob and see what he thinks about it.  My mom is charge nurse of her NICU and is completly against it because of my age and weight.  She can't give me one good reason why I should try again.  I know its my decision but I just wanted an opinion from someone who isn't my mom..lol

Hey there!  You have mentioned a couple of concerns, so let's break them down and take them one by one.

Your age - 35 is no longer considered a problem.  I had my first child at 40 and he is perfectly healthy. Is there anything specific that concerns you about having a child at 35?  Honestly, don't worry about the number alone.

High cholesterol - I don't believe this is an issue in itself, although trying to be as healthy as possible is always in your best interest, and can aid in successful conception.  There are numerous ways to get cholesterol under control...both through diet and medication.  Talk to your Dr. about the fact that you want to conceive and see what his recommendations are.  This is an easy one to overcome.

Multiple c sections - there are numerous women on here who have had to have numerous c sections.  I know several who have had 3 or 4 with no problems at all.  Again, your Dr. is the best person to advise you, but most of the time 3 doesn't seem to be problematic.

Honestly, I don't think there is anything here that should prevent you from having another healthy pregnancy.  Has your Dr. told you it's not a good idea?  Best of luck to you, and welcome back.
