40 and Pregnant!

Hello

Newbie here but hopefully this is correct?
I will be the big 40 on oct 8th - i am currently 25weeks (tomorrow)

In the uk we don't really do baby showers but a friend has suggested one for me and I thought
it would be a good thing for my birthday.  What do you do exactly? Is it polite to ask for particular
items you may need for the babys arrival?

Hi Missjinx
Congrats on your pregnancy. I am currently 6 months(25 weeks and 3 days) My due date is Nov 10, but I will be having a csection on Nov 3. This is number 7 for me. One girl 5 boys so far. This one will be a surprise.

As far as the baby shower goes I like to have my showers early, like two to three months. Just in case I get put on bedrest or deliver early. And I know what I have so I will have time to get the things I dont have. I really dont like the after showere, I am kinda anal about having two many people all over my newborn.

Congrats again!

HI there!  Welcome and congrats.  I also had my first baby at 40 and for me, it was the right time in my life to do so.

I am in Canada where baby showers are common.  In my family/circle of friends it is very common to have one after the baby is born.  I had mine when my son was about 6 weeks old and a girlfriend of mine hosted it.  It was an opportunity for everyone close to me to meet our little bundle of joy and welcome him to the world.  I personally didn't register at any store, but it is very common for women to do so.  Much like a wedding registry.

We had a blast.  Many do it before baby is born, but I'm kinda glad we had it after.  It was fun to see all the people I love with him and to meet him.

Congrats again and best wishes to you.

Hi and Congratulations on your Baby news!  Regarding baby showers, usually a friend of the mom to be hosts it and the friend also invites family/friends of the mom to be.  A lot of women will register at a store for what they want (same as bridal showers) but for a baby instead.  It helps the guests know what to give you so you don't get alot of the same thing, but registering is not a requirement to have a great shower!  If you decide to register, and if your friend mails out invitations (or emails them) it's a good idea to include the name of the store where you are registered so your guests will have no problem finding gifts. Hope this helps!  babywish_
