Am I at risk?

I had my first child at 43.  I had a flawless pregnancy, but after I delivered (vaginally), I experianced post partum hemoraging.  I lost alot of blood, and had to be rushed to the operating room for an emergency D&C.  My OB could not tell me specifically why this happened.  The experiance left me so frightened to have another child, and at my age I want to get busy!  What are the chances I could hemmorage again?  What precautionary measures can I take to feel comfortable to conceive again?

I second getting a pre-conception consult w/a high risk ob.  We too had to go through lots of those kinds of consults to make sure having a baby at my age (44 almost 45) was safe.  I really have no answers to your questions.  Maybe you could post these on the ask-the-experts forum?  I don't blame you for being frightened.  Good luck!

Have you talked to a high-risk OB? With that background I"m betting answers from them are your best bet. I have a blood clot history and thought it would be impossible (i.e. too risky) to carry a pregnancy again, but they told me it was fine as long as I was well taken care of, so here I am 4 weeks from delivery. I'd really suggest a good consult w/ a specialist and if you aren't comfie w/ their reply (or lack of) get a 2nd opinion
