Any constipation cures?

I am so excited to finally be able to post over here as a preggers, not a ttc. :)

But I am really struggling with constipation (doc said no stool softeners!) and I am almost wondering if if these mild dull cramps are needing to poo, instead of uterine (I know I should probably know the difference, but I don't...sorry!)

I'm taking Benefiber, but I was wondering if there were any good natural cures from those who know ;)

Thanks!

Cerealwise the shredded wheat works well for me even the frosted flavored kinds.  Cantalope and dried fruits like apricot, prunes and mango are great  too.  Beets work as well  I've also found that exercise and drinking lots of water get things going
Good luck

Hi,  Prune or Prune Juice always works for me.  Prune is a great snack as well.  I've also heard that good quality Olive Oil can help as well.  You can take 1 or 2 spoonful in the morning.   You can also try to eat salad inc. lettuce with olive oil.  It's healthy and should help you... Make sure you drink lots of water throughout the day.  At least 2ltrs.  What I've also started doing is to have a glass of water after all my meals.  I find this also helps to move things along...
Good luck!

Something else that works well for me is dried apricots.  In fact, this week they have been my best friend!!!  A handful of those before you go to bed makes for a much happier morning. Good luck, and congrats again!!

I,too,  was a bit surprised when she told me no stool softeners as well as no laxatives. They only thing that I could think of was maybe they don't want me to take any chances at all?!?
She told me I could use Metamucil or Benefiber, but that doesn't always help get started (if you know what I mean)....

Thanks for the tips! I'll start the Raisin Bran, grapes, carrots and water regimen right away :)

(Thanks for the words of welcome!!)

Why can't you take stool softeners??? I can take those but not Laxatives! Stool softeners did not help anyway, they just gave me gas.

So far, my best weapons have been grapes, carrots and lots of water!

I really hope you get some relief! Because, boy oh boy, to me that is the worst part of pregnancy. I will take morning sickness any day!!

Congrats and here's to a happy 9 months!

No stool softeners???  Are you sure?? I've always been given list of things I could take and that was always on the list... infact when I was in the hospital for a week they gave them to me 3xs a day....

Anyway.. let me tell ya.. constipation is the story of my life... Raisin Bran Cereal on a daily basis works better than anything I've tried... but when I was on progesterone the only way I would go to the bathroom was with a non-stimulant laxative like Milk of Magnesia... Dr told me I could take it.. they also gave it to me in the hospital..  You can also take Miralax which is also a non-stimulant lax... Stay away from stimulant laxatives tho... and of course try the natural stuff first but if it doesn't work.. there are safe things you can take..

Congrats and welcome to the PG forum!!
