Any mommies deliver premies here?

Looks like I will be delivering a premie due to my chronic hypertension. The dr said it could be as early as 28 wks. I am so scared, so nervous. I may have to be sitting with my baby in the nicu for months til the baby gains and thrives. I'm not prepared for this to spend nights in a hotel and leave the hospital without my baby. How do parents get through this how do you prepare for something like this? Does anyone have experience with a premie birth that they can share? Or advice they can give? Calm my nerves on this one.

Have they given you anything to control your blood pressure. Try to reduce your stress as much as possible. I've seen that some women have been told to take baby aspirin, but check with your Dr 1st. Get on a hypertensive diet. You can look it up on line. It will tell you what foods to avoid like high amounts of sodium. Stay away from soda, and salty foods. I wish you the best. 29 weeks is way too early.

I had my son at 36 weeks and we left hospital together. I had a friend have her baby early at 29 weeks and although she had to stay in the NICU she did wonderfully and is now home just a week past her original due date. Every baby/pregnancy is different but doctors will weigh benefit of baby staying in as well as possibility of your health worsening. I will keep you in my prayers.

My twins were born at 36+2.  They came home with me.  I don't have advice, but I hope you are able to hold off giving birth long past 28 weeks.

I delivered my daughter at 27 weeks due to losing her twin brother at 24 weeks. They will be giving you steroid shots to help baby's lungs develop. She spent 3months in the NICU. It was scary at first to see her that little and helpless. She waz 2lb 3oz. Depending on your baby's weight You should get paperwork to fill out for medacare/madacade and in home therapy. She came home with no problems and has been absolutely perfect. Shes a normal toddler. She'll be 2 in aug. Any questions just ask me. Good luck!

Ok. They have me on methyldopa 250 three times a day. Started a baby aspirin every day. I'm waiting for a nephrology consult and will repeat the labs again. Will I have to deliver by c-section bc this one may be premie even though my first two were delivered vaginally? Do they have to stay in the nicu until their original due date or do they stay long enough til they gain weight? and how much do they have to weigh before they leave the nicu? These are all questions for the dr. But maybe you ladies can shed some light for me? It's a lot to think about and prepare for. Any other premie stories?
