Hey ladies, it's been a couple days, but I'd like to officially announce that my son, Boone, was born Oct 6th at 10:55pm after 41 hours of labor. He weighed 8lbs 12oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.
My labor was hard and long. I was so excited when my contractions finally hit 5 minutes apart after 19 hours of contractions. We went to triage at 1am and had a brutal experience while trying to check my cervix. It took 3 nurses because my son's head was so low. The 3rd lady was the worst. While having a contraction, she SHOVED her whole hand inside me without warning resulting in the most excruciating pain. I was screaming & my husband had to hold me down only to be told that I was only at 2cm & needed to go home. They shot me up with morphine & told me to go sleep!
The next morning, my obgyn called to follow up and asked for me to come in and get rechecked. Needless to say I was very nervous to be checked again, but this nurse was very gentle. Again, even though I was having strong regular contractions, I was still only at 2cm so she suggested we go have lunch, walk, whatever & if the contractions got worse or closer together, to call or come back. My husband decided we'd go home which is an hour drive. On that drive my contractions became very intense. I was having a hard time breathing through them. By the time we got home, the contractions were so intense that I was losing control of myself. The pain was more than I could bare. My husband called the doctor, they told us to come in asap & recheck my cervix. I'll tell you, that hour drive back was HELL! Once we arrived at the dr office, I was in tears. I was ready to beg & plead to get this baby out of me. I was exhausted & couldn't do it anymore. I was seriously wanting to throw myself in traffic, but to my surprise I had dilated to 4cm & she was going to direct admit me into the birthing center!
Once there, everything fell into place so much so that we had the Seahawks game on the whole time. I had a wonderful team working with me and received my epidural within the hour of being admitted which was roughly 4pm. By 6pm, I was dilated to 6cm & my doctor broke my water & noticed it was tainted with meconium so we had to take specific precautions & make sure we had the right medical staff on call. Come 8pm, I was fully dilated & ready to push. After 3 hours of pushing, my little one finally arrived. I did it all vaginally so I did tear pretty bad when his head came out. Once out, he was placed on my tummy screaming to where the medical staff immediately started monitoring his vitals & respiratory for signs of complications from the meconium.
After a couple hours of constant monitoring, the staff said that he was doing wonderful, but we'd need to stay in the hospital for a few days to continue monitoring him as well as care for my stitches.
Even though my labor was frustrating, complicated, painful, slow going, & at moments dramatic, it's all worth it in the end. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do and is also my biggest accomplishment. My son is the most precious little being that I've ever seen in my life & he's given me purpose. The love you feel is overwhelming, but in the most amazing way.
I wish all you future mommy's the best with your labor and delivery. I pray that you all have happy, healthy babies.
