Been sick for a month - help!

Hey ladies!  Ok, I've had a cold for almost  a month now..I can't take it anymore.  I was coughing but that stopped..the problem is my congestion right now.  A pharmacist gave me a nasal spray for that that does wonders but..it says on the back that if it persists for more than 7 days to consult a doctor.  Now, is it a waste of time to go see a doctor?  Will they be able to prescribe something to heal my stupid congestion once and for all????  Have any of you had something prescribed?

Well ladies, hopefully, I'm on the road to recovery.  I finally got an appointment this afternoon with a doctor who prescribed some antibiotics (apo amoxi) and a nasal spray (nasonex)..I'm praying this works!  I'm still miserable but at least I'm doing something about it and it might be gone in a few days!!   :)

I was never allergic to anything before I had my daughter, then all a sudden I am allergic to cinnamon! I LOVEEEEEE cinnamon! =o( I hope they figure out what's going on! I hate this weather when your pregnant!

Just came back from the stupid clinic...There was about 50 people ahead of me..and I'm not exagerating. There wasn't even space to sit..I just left and came back home. I don't want to risk catching what these other people have..  :(  I'm soooo discouraged, I can't stop crying.  This is ridiculous, stupid hormones!

As far as allergies..I don't think so. I've never really been allergic to anything.  I couldn't sleep so I'm off to sit and wait for hours to see a doc!  I'm never gonna be able to go see my obgyn so I'll go to the emergency clinic.  They better give me something!!

Ugh Melanie.. a month? Gosh that seems like an awefully long time to be sick! I would ask your doc what you can take that will get rid of it once and for all. Do you have some kind of allergies that could be making it last this long?

It sounds like you need to go in and get some help befor it even gets worse. Muinex woud be a wonderful relief, and ofcourse the steriolds were a good help also.. but Its not going to leave on its own. It will end up in your lungs and you will have a bigger mess. Thats what happened with me. poor thing... good luck and let us know what they did for you.

That's exactly my problem..it seems I can't blow my nose..there's absolutely nothing coming out but I can hear and feel it all up in my sinus..it's like it's too thick to come out!  I feel like I'm choking..I'm in my 29th week and the baby's taking up all my space and to top it off, I can't breathe through my nose..I really can't take it anymore!

They gave me the steriolds to reduce some some of the swelling in my lungs.
I waited tooo long to go to the dr, so it got worse..
Im still coughing alittle but atleast Im able to do somthings.
sorta sounds like you have allergries? mine never went away till the end. I would over do myself thinking I was better and would slap me back down, to let me know NOT. but atleast it is breaking up and Im getting some energy back.

yea... If I would of known mucinex could be takien.. I would of tried that!! because you really need some help to get that stuff out. I took no meds.. at first and eeeek...

I had all that mess last month, but mine was bad with cough. my dr told me i could take Mucinex to break up the congestion. It worked for me.

I totally know what you mean about that nasty cold hanging on.  I definitely think a dr might help alleviate the symptoms especially the congestion.  I'm glad that you consulted your pharmacist however:  sometimes they're more help than the dr :-)).  I'm just now getting to feel better, thank goodness.  Tennessee, I hope you're doing better!

Steroids are used for a multitude of things - I used it when I had bronchitis.  It is available only by prescription.  I hope you get well soon!!

I'm not really much help but to tell you that cold is BRUTAL!! I know at least 5 people including my sister and a good friend who were both sick for a month. Just when they thought they were slowly getting better in week 2 or so...BAM it came right back with other symptoms. So sorry you are sick, but you DR can help with a safe faster treatment for at least the cough.

Hey..thanks for the info.  :)   I've had it for almost a month..it comes and goes..gets a little better then gets bad again. I'm soooo discouraged!!  It feels like I'm never gonna feel better! :(  Now, the cough is gone but I'm clogged up like you wouldn't believe. Like I said I have a nasal spray (dristan)..it helps a lot but after 7 days if the symptoms continue, I'm suppose to go see a doctor.  Hopefully, they can prescribe something not only to alleviate the symptoms (congestion) but I want it to go heal and go away completely!  

What is steriolds? Is it a prescription med?

yea... poupoune26... They gave me an inhalaer. xopenex hfa... really helps with the cough.. I only use it at night. ofcourse I went to the dr late when it was really bad. so it might be too much for what you need. but it really helped and he assured me it was safe for baby, I still used it less then the directions. Just because Im one that hates to take meds. of course at night was the worst for me.

and I also got steriolds for 7 days. did good too...
I fill so bad for you because I had it for a long time!!! Just make sure you go ahead and go.. It does get worse, the sooner you can get it in control the better.

There are soooo many diffrent colds out there... Mine started with cough, sneezing, sore troat... then the next week.. the mucus got really really thick and inpossible to get out. lungs and nose... low feaver...dry cough...Good luck to you... I hope it doesnt get worse for you!! Its such a bad one.
