Beginning of Bloody Show?

This might be a TMI, but today I had a bit of bright red blood in my cm.  Hardly anything, just a tiny bit when I wiped.  I called my OB's office and spoke to the nurse and she said it could be that I am starting to lose my mucus plug!!  Already??  I am only just coming up to 35 weeks.  It was just a tiny bit and I am not having contractions or any other signs of labour.  She told me that if it got heavier to come into L&D, but otherwise not to worry about it.  I am nervous...I have been really calm about the whole labour process but am now getting a bit freaked out.  Anyone else start to lose their mucus plug this early?  Does it mean I am going into labour soon?  I know he would probably be fine delivering now, but I want him to wait at least a few more weeks....I don't want him to have to stay in the hospital.

I don't mean to be gross, but you're sure it's from your 'ya-ya'??? I get blood sometimes, but it's from the gosh-awful hemorrhoids that I have (even when I don't have a poo, they can bleed a bit)....

Sounds like if it is the plug, it's still all within normal range, but I just wanted to throw out another option all together!

How fast this pregnancy has flown by? Remember when we were so scared about the first trimester and even twinge/cramp sent us into hysterics? I think the second trimester was my only 'calm' time...now that I am getting closer to delivery, I am worrying about stuff all over again!!! ;)

I lost my plus 4 weeks before Gavin came, plus I walked around 4 cm dialiated for 3 weeks.  Like everyone said, just rest and keep an eye out.  Don't worry dear, if Beaner came now; he would be a okay!

Wow, girl I can't believe that your 35 wks pregnant already.  Your little guy will be here before u know it.  It went by so fast.  I don't know much about the mucus plug b/c that didn't happen to me but I had my twins at 34 wks and they were fine.  Their lungs were good and all but of course they had to stay in the hospital for 6 days just to make sure that they were eating good.  That was hard for me to see them in the hospital but they were able to come home in 6 days and they were just fine.  Don't worry about a thing your little guy will be just fine.  My son weighed 4 lbs 6 oz and my daughter was 4 lbs 2 oz when they were born.  Let's hope and pray that these 2 new little ones will be born past 34 wks.  Say some prayers for me.  Good luck & please keep me posted!!!!  Take care.

Thanks again for all the happy thoughts (and Trudi, always so great to see a post from you!!!)  I spent some time reading up on babies born at 35 weeks and am not as worried now.  I am still not having any regular contractions (just braxton hicks) and still only a tiny bit of bleeding once or twice a day.  I'm sure all is just fine.  Unless the bleeding gets worse I don't see my OB until Wed. and she will check me then for any dialation.  I guess it's close no matter what now....I am excited and scared all at the same time..lol.  I cannot believe we are almost there!!!  It's Boxing Day here in Canada (kind of like the US Black Friday) so we are off to finish our shopping for baby and going to pack my bag this week as well.  Home stretch!!!!

Wow, I can't believe how fast this pregnancy seems to have been. I am sure it doesn't feel the same way to you LOL! Losing the mucus plug isn't the best sign of when to go into labor but if you do, your little man should do sooo well at over 34 weeks! When I was pregnant with baby #1, singleton pregnancy, my water broke when i was in bed and the mucus plug didn't even come out until I was in the hospital and I wasn't even 1/2 cm dilated!!!! The bigger signs are the effacement and the dilation.

I am so excited for you to have your bitty baby : ) The funny thing is that with the first (after trying so hard to get pregnant) you worry about everything and it won't end with the delivery but with a subsequent pregnancy, you stop and smell the roses a little more : )

Don you worry - 35 weeks is relatively safe should baby decide to arrive. i had a premature baby for my 1st and my gynae had told me the safe mark is 32 weeks. As by 32 weeks - the baby's lungs would have definitely matured. Hang in there little one!

My Christmas wish is that you get a few more weeks of Pregnancy and no more bleeding - you deserve it after what you've endured to get to this point.........J

ps. baby m was only 37w1d 5lbs 12.5 oz and she had NO lung issues at birth or any other problem relating to her early entrance........

Well, more bleeding last night, but still very very light.  Nothing this morning.  It's hard to really enjoy my day when I am worried about this.  Absolutely no contractions and baby is moving as much as usual.  Bernie, thanks for the info on your little ones, that does make me feel a lot better.  Meli, I want to meet my son so badly, but a few more weeks would be good.....I know he would be fine now, but just to make sure. I lost my plug and gave birth 3 days later 8 days early... good luck I am ready to see our little beaner!!!

My plug always came away bit by bit over a 2 week period and I was early with all of my pregnancies.  The earliest the mucus started to come away was 34 weeks and I had baby at 36 weeks and he weighed 7lb 4oz.

To put your mind at rest here are the dates and weights of all 4:

35 weeks - 6lb 2oz
36 weeks - 7lb 4oz
38 weeks - 6lb 1oz
36 weeks - 7lb 6oz

When I lost my mucus plug I was hoping labor is coming but it took another 2 weeks or so.  Also, I was loosing it in bits and pieces over a week.  My labor did not start till my water broke.  So losing the plug does not always mean labor is around the corner.

If you see more bright red blood I would check it out with your ob.  Bloody show is typically pinkish and brownish.  The plug looked like a cork made of snot (sorry tmi)

Thanks you two.  As always I appreciate the comments and the great advice.  My OB actually just called me as when I called earlier I had only spoken to her nurse.  She basically said that it is not uncommon to begin losing your mucas plug as early as 32 weeks and that it does not neccessarily mean labour is coming soon.  She said the same thing you two and the nurse did....if the bleeding increases or is accompanied by contractions to head to labour and delivery.  Also, worst case scenario, a baby being born at 35 weeks is certainly not the best case scenario, but typically do not have any long term "preemie" type issues.  I feel better and will just take it easy and watch it.  I am doubly glad we decided to stay home for Christmas this year.  If something is going to happen, I prefer to be close to my own Dr. and hospital.  I really trust her which is a good feeling.  Now, I better get busy....his room is still not finished and we still don't have a name!!!

It generally seemed to me that most people breathed a sigh of relief once they got over 32 weeks (I think the outcome with early labour after that week is pretty good) I know my ob was thankful I got past that week with not too much drama, I would imagine your ob would feel the same so the fact that you're at 35 weeks is GREAT. Have a great Christmas and try not to worry (famous last words for anything to do with pregnancy).  At least when the baby is delivered you get to worry about a whole NEW list of things.......

I think it can also regenerate as well, so you lose some, it replugs etc..... i never had it so i'm going by the discussions on my bb board....there was a lot of talk of mucous as people were nearing the end...... :)  good luck

It sounds like you lost some or all of your mucus plug.  Don't panic...sometimes this occurs and nothing can happen for weeks, other times, labour is right around the corner.  This just means your cervix is changing and preparing for labour.  Keep an eye on it....REST.  Stay off your feet as much as you can.  I don't want to startle you, but you really don't want to go into labour now...and if you do, your OB may give you meds to stop the onset of labour.  Either way, be mindful of it, and go to the hospital if you continue to bleed and have contractions with it.  XOXO  Merry Christmas!!!  Pam
