Changes in my period - can I get pregnant?

I am 36, gave birth last year. My period returned 4 months later, however, ever since then I don't have the mucus discharge (which I assume was the uterus tissue), only blood clots. Should I be worried? I'm thinking perhaps it's a sign I don't have sufficient progesterone levels? Last time I got pregnant immediately, now it's the 3rd month of trying. Should I see a doctor?

Hi Dana,
I don't know if this has any thing to do with you or not since I'm 51 and pregnant, but here it is for what it's worth. I had been having very heavy periods with lots of large clots for the past few years. When I would mention it to my doctor  (not an OB) he would just say it had to do with my approaching menopause. Oddly I had some hot flashes every now and then 4 or 5 yrs ago, but then they stopped totally and my periods continued. My period which for most of my life has varied widely between 25-35+ days has, in the past few years,  became almost normal (ave 27 days) but was quite heavy on certain days w/ clotting. They did find a small fibroid tumor when they did an ultrasound at 23 wks, but I don't know if that is related to the clotting or not.

Don't be worried.  The same thing happened to me after I delivered.  After I stopped breastfeeding, my period returned (very heavy flow) and it was full of blood clots.  I "assumed" because I never did ask my doctor, that it was uterine tissue and residuals from post delivery.  I don't know about the low progesterone.  I have been told If you see any blood clots the size of a .50 cent piece or larger to let your doctor know.  I too became pregnant 1st time when I was 42, now 13 days away from turning 45, TTC has become a challenge, but I have since stopped trying, well stopped obssessing, huh, Amanda : )   I would keep trying around the 6 month mark, if by then you haven't conceived, then I would consult with your OB or an RE.  Best wishes!

I would.  I'm not sure exactly what you mean by mucas discharge, do you mean actual flow?  Usually mid cycle spotting is an indicator of low progesterone, but it could be that or a lot of other things.  I would get into see a Dr. and preferably an OB/GYN.  Best of luck to you!!!
