I went to a Chiropractor during my second trimester due to tension headaches. The chiropractor I saw in Canada had experienced in "adjusting" pregnant women. The table could even be adjusted to accomadate my pregnant stomach. It was so comfortable.I got my neck and back adjusted, plus he recommended me to see a massage therapist before my plane trip. It helped so much as the next day I had to sit on an airplane for 10 hours.
Make sure you ask the chiropractor if they do adjustments on pregnant women (or what do they recommend) and how experience they are. If they are experienced they should be able to put your mind at ease and answer all your questions.
This may help your back but "pressure" around your right rib cage could be cause by other things - use your intuition when you meet the chiropractor.
Thanks! I'll definitely look into it.
I went to a chiropractor with my first pregnancy. It helped alot with the aches and pains.
I'm not part of the forum but I saw your question and just wanted to tell you I have been going for adjustments since I was 14 wks pg. My low back pain has been so severe and my sciatica has been very very painful. I asked my dr and he gave me the okay. I feel for me personally it works. I'm also going to look into accupuncture to as well as a pg massage. I really stand by chiro care it has helped so much with my posture this is my only pg I have gotten chiro and I wish I had with my other 3. You should def go if you can. Congrats on your pg. How far along are you?

I'm 24 wks. My back is more achy than in pain...I feel that being pregnant pushes and squishes everything altogether, and an adjustment would release some of the tension build-up. Plus, I'm hoping to get a nice massage factored in as well. I'm going to call some Chiros tomorrow and see who is qualified for pregnant women. Thank you for replying! Pam
I hear that lots of women visit chiro during pregnant. You saw that one show "I didnt know I was pregnant." One of those ladies visited Chiro during labor because she was having a lot of back pain. The chiro said he would have adjusted her differently if he knew she was pregnant. Maybe you didn't see that episode.
By the way....let me know if you chiro helps you....i am having same issues...i've got pain in my lower back and in my shoulder.
I have seen lot's of advertisements here for Chiropractors that specialize in pregnant women, so I guess it's pretty common. I have hear acupuncture is good for relieving aches and pains in pregnant women. I would be cautious (you know me!!) and ask my OB for a referral and also his/her opinion first. Just to be on the safe side.
I have gone to a Chiropractor throughout my pregnancy. He also worked with his wife for 5 of her pregnancies. BUT.. Then my OB doc suggested that I go to an OMM doctor and that was ABSOLUTELY the BEST experience I had ever had! They do not crack you at all, they just find your pain points (knots) and move you while pressing the knot out. I walked in there crooked, walked out like I was never pregnant and I was 8 1/2 months!!
Check into Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine doctors often referred to as OMM doctors.
During my first pregnancy I had round ligament pain so bad it hurt to walk. I asked my OB at the time and he said I would just have to live with it.....I didn't like that answer so I found a chriopractor who works with pregnant women and after one session with her my round ligament pain vanished!!! It works. I plan on getting some chriopractic work done this pregnancy BEFORE anything has a chance to flare up.
I swear by my chiropractor - both while pregnant and not - definitely ask and find one who is experienced in treating pregnant ladies - during my pregnancy with my daughter - he kept me feeling great the whole time - I had horrible pubis symphysis pain and he was even able to help with that - go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go - and by the way, you should go!
I think I'll go! : ) I'll update on this post after I have my appt. Thanks for sharing your expereinces with me!
Hi Pam,
I went to a chiro. during pregnancy and it really helped a lot. Massage coupled with Chiro was what helped me the most. I have three bulging discs from two car accidents so I was already established with both my chiro and my massage therapist. Thankfully both were experienced in treating pregnant women. It really was a life saver.
I hope it helps you.
