Coffee??

Hi ladies. I am currently on day 5 of week 5. Due date Feb 20! I am so excited! This is my second child but my first is almost 19 lol so I kinda forgot what it's like. I work at 5am (i know this will be brutal as I get further along). I've ALWAYS had my coffee in the morning. I read that excessive coffee (caffeine) is no good for the baby...but honestly I NEVER drink soda (which has caffeine) & only have one or two cups of coffee a day. Thoughts? I will give up coffee if I have to but I will need to replace it with something I suppose...

I've never been able to drink caffinated coffee when pregnant, I never went back to it after having my 3rd child, I now can't tolerate caffeine very well. Have a look for decaff versions of your favourite coffee, then you at least get the taste! I still 'need' my morning cup to waken me up, I don't notice the lack of caffeine.

If what you need is the kick of the caffeine you can change it for something natural. With me for example,  I need that wake-up kick from the coffee but I changed it for a ginger shot and that works WAY better than the coffee. The flavor it's not the best at the beginning,  but later on you get use to it. I'm at the point where I'm looking forward to have my shot in the morning. It makes me feel awesome!

200 mg is a normal cup to two cups if you brew it yourself, and that's the conservative end of what's considered safe. The book 'Expecting Better' is a tremendous resource for the actual evidence on caffeine and other things.

I couldn't imagine giving up our morning coffee ritual either, so I got some decaf grounds to "cut" with the normal grounds with about 25% decaf. Neither my husband nor I notice the lowered caffeine, and we both have out usual travel mugs, mine only filled to hold about an 8 oz cup, like always. I don't have anything else during the day but I wasn't in the habit of that anyway. 25 weeks and doing great!

Yes just no more than 200mg. I would usually have a very small watered down cup very early in the morning and then no more caffeine.  Then I had to stop because it all of a sudden caused restless leg syndrome and I couldn't go to sleep until 2-3am and I'd have to be up at 7 for work.  This just started at 36 weeks. I can't wait to have coffee again!

I'm 37+2 with my second.  My first is 18 months old and there was no way I could survive without coffee this pregnancy. I just limit myself to 1 cup every morning and that's my only source of caffeine except for occasional iced tea.  Baby is great, my blood pressure is great. Just don't drink a ton and you and your baby will be fine :)

I use to work at 4 or 5am depending on how big my updates were and I use to drink two coffees and a red bull a day and it totally ruined my social life once I got home I was asleep till the next morning lol!! But I tried to wait some days to drink coffee at 10 am rather than at 5 am! Lol

They say no more 200 mg of caffiene a day which is a small cup. Maybe try really green smoothies or orange juice! (I know I know nothing compared to coffee lol) or maybe drink your coffee at your 4 hour mark? Maybe around 1 or 2 pm?
