Just started thinking about SIDS

Not sure why I am starting to worry about SIDS....I was bored just sitting here and sids popped into my head. OMG! how terrible that would be.  I never really knew of anyone having a baby die from SIDS so i started to do some research on it and ways you can try and prevent it....not sure if that added any comfort to my worries.  It says there really isn't a answers to SIDS.  They say putting your baby to sleep on its back helps.  All we want to do as mothers is care and protect our babies from everything.  I know its been a while since my kids were newborns but I do recall putting them to sleep on both bellies and backs.  Anyone have thoughts on this?

When my youngest was only a couple months old, I took the bumper out of the crib because I had a sudden freakout about SIDS. I'm not even going to use the bumper for this baby. I've read that pacifiers help strengthen their muscles to help with prevention. Both my babies loved their pacifiers, so I don't mind them using them when they need them if it helps strengthen them. And I've also read that breastfed babies have a lower rate too. Plus, the instructions of no soft bedding in the crib and putting baby on their back for sleeping. I have a baby monitor on so I can hear baby thorughout the night and I check on the kids whenever I wake up during the night too, even my oldest who is 7!

I lost my first child, a boy 16 years ago to SIDS.  He just turned six months old when it happened.  they really have no solid answers.  it was a very traumatic experience.  I since have three wonderful children and expecting again in December.  I am greatful for the apnea monitors.  Since I lost a child to SIDS, they send the babies home on the apnea monitor, without that I think I would have lost my mind.  My youngest is a lil over 2 and I still check her all the time.  The rate of SIDS has decreased since then, but there is still not much known about it and exactly why it happens.  Just take the precautions and trust God.

I worry to, I am getting those alarm pads that go under the mattress. if your baby doesnt move for 20 seconds it alarms. it detects breathing as well... I am a little older and having twins, so I thought it would be worth it to purchase..

I worry about all of this stuff too.  I never realized how complicated this all is.  Right now I worry about making it through the first trimester, then its worrying about chromosonal abnormalities, then labour, stillborn and sids.  I know being a mom is going to be so worth it, but I can't believe more women don't wind up locked up in a physciatric hospital somewhere.  I feel a little crazy with worry already, and I am only 5 weeks pregnant!! I saw my OB/GYN today and he was talking about the percentages around all these things.  It is comforting to know that stillbirth and sids risk is only about 1%.  Pretty good odds.  Curious, what is a binky?

Yeah, I read that too and hopefully my baby will take the binky like my other two.

new research says that after a month you should put your baby to bed with a binkey to lower risk of sids...

oh always on their backs... the hospital even puts a little shirt onto the baby in the hospital that says flip me over on the back and always to sleep on back on the belly...
