Epidural

I'm 37 weeks, this is my first baby and  I'm starting to get so nervous now that the baby can be here at anytime. I plan on giving vaginal birth but the whole epidural thing just scares me, the needle in my back and the whole being numb ya it doesn't sound good to me. I'm not sure what I should do, I'd like some advice. If you've had or haven't had the epidural    , please share your experience with me. Thanks.

I had a natural birth with my son. No epidural, no IV, no gas, just some Tylenol after it was all over. It hurt more than anything in my whole life, it was really hard, but like they say - you forget all about the pain after you see the baby. I believed in myself and concentrated on what I needed to do. I knew my body could handle it. I had a wonderful support system and an amazing midwife to coach me through it. I can't wait to do it again.

By the time you feel that you want/need the epidural, its going to be because your in so much pain you dont want to bare it anymore...and honestly at that point, the stick from the needle will be your least concern. I had two, plan on it as well with my third. Just be very still and breathe, its over before you know it. Good luck

I dont remember the meds. Pushing was not bad for me. The hardest part was pushing the head but after that they slid right out.  I think the medicine was called demerol (sp?). You can ask your hospital and they wilk tell you what medications they use.

Just had epidural few weeks ago for my first baby. Doctor had to induce me because I was in pain so bad and bleeding a lot. Its not so bad the epidural. Only the feeling pressure you will feel when u r fully dilated like your constipated but 10x worse for me. Well good luck.

I've had 4 epidurals and all were done differently. I wouldn't have changed a thing. They don't really hurt and they take all the pain away you Just feel pressure.

Im terrified, PETRIFIED, of needles. I was so scared about the epi. But the numbing part just stings a little bit & after that you dont feel a thing! Nothing to be scared of af all. & once you have contractions, epiruals are NOTHING. Lol

I only had gas and air and i think i handled the pain well. I plan to only have gas and air this time as well. I was in established labour from about 9.30pm until 2.45am.

I've had 2 kids and never got the epidural.  I am freaked out about a needle in my back and them having to do it during a contraction. I got meds through the IV. Took the edge off and made things comfortable.  Good luck to you :)
