Im 23 weeks and have two. One 11 cm and the other 5 cm, my dr isnt worried at all. She says as long as its not near the birthing canal I can still do natural birth. They cause pain and sometimes spotting but they havent affected the baby at all.
I am 12 weeks and got transferred to a high risk specialist because I have a lot of fibroids. I have one that is pretty big on the outside of the uterus that is pressing on my bladder so I constantly need to pee which I assume will get worse as the baby gets bigger. I read that the hormones in pregnancy accelerate the growth so I am sure they will watch for that. Also the position of them can affect the pregnancy. I got more info from reading up on the subject than from the doctors so far.
I went to the medical records department and got a copy of my records from the first set of doctors and brought the records to another doctor who was really helpful and seemed generally interested in helping me know everything I could. Thinking since the first ultrasound was in the ER that the doctors were just too busy with other patients to see me and go over everything. The new doctor said since I'm high risk, I might have to choose an OBGYN over a midwife and might have to undergo more ultrasounds in the first trimester than for a normal pregnancy, but having her translate all of the medical notations in the medical records put me at so much ease! She also pointed out that the fibroid wouldn't take up any more room than a second or third child (as the case with twins or triplets) so I shouldn't worry about it too much. They will be monitoring the fibroid closely just to make sure there isn't rise for concern. Thank you for your recommendation. I will look into finding someone who has experience with delivering this type of pregnancy.
Has your doctor referred you to a high risk specialist? I know of a friend that had this and the baby was fine- but other then that I am not familiar. If they have told you that you are high risk, they will probably send you to a high risk specialist and they will give you more answers. I'd call and push for some information too- it doesn't hurt to tell them you need more information. Good luck and keep us updated!
