Reality is that the chances of death (to mother) are 3x higher with C sections - it's major surgery. This is not to say the risk is high - with both vaginal birth and c sections the chances of someone dying are both really really low, but certainly a vaginal birth is statistically slightly safer. Csecs are great for emergency situations but should really be kept mostly for emergencies.

Then you look at all the benefits of vaginal birth vs csec for both mother and especially baby, and you can understand why they always recommend vaginal birth except for health/pregnancy complications, as pretty much everything ends up being better for a vaginal birth (again, statistically - this doesn't mean it's better for each individual).

The only reason I'd have considered an elective csec for my first is if there was a very strong family history of complications in vaginal births that ended up in csecs (and I mean real medical conditions, not just failure to progress). Or if I had an irrational fear of vaginal birth, and counselling, birth courses and meditation didn't fix it, because fear is one of the main factors in complicating birth and therefore a csec might be safer.

I did. My first delivery was very rough and traumatizing to me so I opted for an elective C-Section. Not having labor is easier but recovery time is longer. Both ways the end result is the same beautiful baby alittle bit of discomfort. Its a personal preference, but dont go for the route where you labor in agony for days before you decide a C-Section is ok.

You can have complications with either procedure. I had an abdominal myomectomy ( c-section minus the kid) for fibroids. I had pain the first two days but by the third day I was walking around the hospital stealing the nurses bad food stash. This will be my second pregnancy, but my first time giving birth.

My ob/gyn office's midwives have tried to persuade me into VBAC, I along with my former doctor have firmly informed everyone I will have another C-section. I rather have what some consider a elective c-section as opposed to being like a co-worker of mine who almost died along with her child when her child's big head got stuck in the birth canal and the forceps and vacuum suction thing didn't work after 17 hours of labor.

You do what is best for you and your child, you and your doctor should come up with good birth plan that will work for you. Good luck

No I had a c section  first then a vbac after vaginal birth is so much easier  c section was only done after 2 days of labor and baby in distressed and not dialated past 4  c section is a major surgery and takes time to heal your iscar takes forever to heal all the way inside and out side  that's why if you have another pregnancy to soon they will give you another c section  cause your not completely healed I think it's at least  15- 18 months  to be safe

Most doctors don't offer elective C-sections anymore. It's a longer healing process and I've heard the scar can be painful, and while there's no shame in having one, it isn't generally encouraged to have surgery when it isn't medically necessary.

Don't pick one over another for being "safe". Both have complications that can happen. People still die giving birth naturally and with c sections. Not to scare you but share the reality of it. Go natural if you can because the healing is easier, it's not a major surgery. BUT be open in case something happens and you need to have a c section. The main goal is a healthy baby and a healthy mom.  This is my 2nd baby and after 37 hours of labor and 7 hours on top of that pushing, both baby and I went into distress and had an emergency  c section.  It was the only way to save both of our lives.

A c section isn't necessarily "safer". There are risks associated with both.

No. Especially if it's ur 1st pregnancy. But y would u want that when the recovery for vaginal delivery is much easier. U feel better after an hour or 2 n ur back to ur old self. A c section u won't be able to do alot of stuff for days regal stuff, some stuff not even in months n it takes close to a year to completely heal. Outside it looks like it healed but u can bleed inside or get hernias.
