Gestationally diabetic again!!

I am 6w2d and I was diabetic with my last pregnancy but didnt find out till I was 36 weeks and was dumb and didnt think I needed to treat it so late. So when I found out about this one I have been checking my blood sugars because I knew it would be immediate with this one and not wait till the glucose tolerance test. I check them in the AM and 2 hours after each meal and they range 130s -140s up to 250 on the after meal checks. I have my appointment with the diabetic DR tomorrow. I havent even had my first prenatal yet but the diabetic Dr said 250 was too high and I needed to be seen by him ASAP. Is this something I can control with diet (like you can tell a pregnant woman what to eat) or will it be medication and/or insulin. My last son was in the hospital for a week with respiratory distress because of the diabetes so im makin sure I do the right thing this time for sure. Suggestions and comments would be helpful. Thanks lil mommas

OK lil mommas i went to the Diabetic Dr Fri and she put me on insulin based on the readings i got with my moms Accucheck monitor which is only about a year old. She gave me a new One touch Ultra. I have been comparing the 2 monitors cuz something didnt seem right when we tested with it in the office..2 hours after eating i had a completely normal blood sugar which I havent had in the last 3 weeks. The new monitor is checking about 30 below what i was gettting on the other monitor which is a different brand but not old. I have been monitoring my carbs but I havent changed that much in 4 days.  Lets hope moms is the wrong one and Im not diabetic. We had decided not to even do the glucose tolorance but im thinkin we better just to make sure.

Oh! And the main thing is, since your levels are so high,  stay away from Fruits and Milk in the AM.  You can have them for a snack , etc but for some reason, Diabetics have a hard time processing the Sucrose and Carbs in fruits and Milk in the AM.  I eat 1 piece of whole wheat toast, 1 egg and 2 slices of turkey bacon every morning. GOOD LUCK!!!

I have GD and the best thing to do is speak with a nutrionalist.  That's what my dr had me do.  Believe me, I am NOT a dieter but she helped educate me on what carbs were good, how to count them and subtract if there is fiber, etc.........I am also on Insulin shots once in the AM>

I had GD w/ my son.  My numbers were never that high but I did control mine w/ diet.  I pretty much ate no carbs.  I ate mostly veggies, a few fruits and a lot of dairy, including plain yogurt.  no sugar and no bread and starches.  i did have occasional small slice of pizza or a tiny (1/2 cup) of past w/ vegetables.  Def nothing w/ sugar.  I did eat sugar free pops but only sparingly due to the sugar substitute.  It was hard but you know how important it is.  :)  My morning was a cheese stick, a cup of plain yogurt, a few berries and a 1/2 piece of whole wheat toast w/ butter.  lunch was salad w/ chicken or something for protein like tofu, 1 oz of cheese (i ate more than that cuz i was starving) and 1/2 piece whole wheat bread.  dinner:  tried to eat what everyone else had but very small portion.  let us know how you make out w/ the dr.  even if he puts you on meds, please still try to mind what you eat.  :)  good luck
