abnormal FSH

Just got my fsh results back. I'm doing the clomid challenge test. My first blood test showed a 17 fsh level. That was five days ago. I started clomid after that and went in for my day 10 blood test today. My fsh is at 36! I'm supposed to have an ultrasound Monday to see if the clomid stimulated follicles. (we were going to do IUI next week). But these fsh levels are devastating. I don't know how it would have jumped so high, but even 17 is bad. I'm 39. I had a missed miscarriage in February and just got my body back to normal in June. I've had a cyst on my ovaries that finally went away this month, paving the way for treatment, and now this other major road block. I'm so depressed about it. (I even started acupuncture the day after the first test and had two treatments before today's test. Shouldn't that have helped??) I have a consult with my RE MOnday. I know what he's going to say -- egg donor. I'm encouraged by the stories of women getting pregnant with high fsh. Thank you for sharing them.

Get a second opinion if you can. There are more and more REs out there who are FSH friendly. Also, consider CCRM. I think they do phone consults!

Don't give up, IVF isn't for everyone and many women don't get pregnant with it even when dr think they will.  I am doing much better on vitamins then I  did with fertility meds.  In your case, you already did conceive so you will again!! So glad you are doing acupuncture.  Also start reading about macaroot, vitex, and tribulus, all very healthy vitamins that I taking too, you might want to consider when you are done with stuff your dr wants you to tak.

Check out my fertility recipe I posted back around Aug. 10.  It has worked for me to increase my follie size and lining. Next, I am praying it will help me conceive.

I know it is hard right now, got the same speech in Feb myself, but hang in there.

Went and saw the RE today. We couldn't wait till Monday! He did a quick ultrasound and the clomid did nothing to stimulate my follicles, which is what he suspected. He said because my levels were so high, i'd have a 5% chance of getting pregnant through IVF. He's suggesting DE but I can't get my head around it.

I had a few small eggs on each ovary (too small he said) and one that was bigger, but still smaller than what I should have. He said it may mature, but it may not. We're going to do one last test. He's going to give me the heavy does of meds that he does for IVF and see if it stimulates my follicles enough. If it works, we can do IVF, if it doesn't then we have our answer. He doesn't expect it'll work. He said he's not seen anyone in my situation (FSH/Age) get pregnant with IVF.

I'm crushed and I feel so bad for my new husband. We both want a baby together sooo bad. And here I am with pre-menapausal ovaries. I've been a mess all day. it's devastating to think you've missed your chance in life to have a baby because you waited so long.  I started acupuncture last week, Risa. I hear so many great things. i'm going to keep going and pray it helps me for this next test.

There is no proven way to reduce FSH, but I know lots of women here who have tried some of the things mentioned by Risa.  I also know women here who have been told that natural conception was impossible due to high FSH levels, yet they still conceived.

Egg donors are a really good option for many, and again, we have had several success stories here from women using them as well.

It really depends on what you want.  If you want more guaranteed results, egg donor is a great way to go.  But it can happen with high FSH levels...keep in mind they can change from month to month, so you never know.

I had similar results at your age.  I am now 41 and started acupuncture a month ago and taking wheat grass pills daily since both have lowered FSH levels.  You really need to find Sherri's posts, because she will tell you FSH is only a number and you are already proven you can get pregnant with your own age.  I hate the donor speech, and I am not ready to give up yet!  I am taking vitamins also to help me conceive.  I have had many failed IUIs, but will still keep trying.  I figure I have at least three more years of trying before I even consider the donor egg thing.  Do weekly acupuncture if you can.  I try to tell myself, if it is not this cycle, then next.   Lots of women on hear have gotten pregnant will a higher FSH then you!
