i found out at 17 weeks with an elective ultrasound (had to go to usa to get it - about 20 minutes from my house in canada :) in canada they won't do sex until 24 weeks and even then they might not do it then. they said girl at 17, 24, 3d and i had a girl.

I just had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, 4 days and I was told my baby is a boy.  I hope it was  accurate as I've told many people already.  We didn't see 3 lines, but I hope it wasn't the cord
that the technician was looking at when she said it was a boy.  I won't have another u/s for another 10 weeks from now.  Friends and family will be buying blue things before then.

Originally they told me my scan would be at 19 weeks :O(
I too have read 13 weeks.  I had my scan at 13 weeks 2 day for the nuchal testing and although the U/S tech wouldnt promise us she unofficially said a GIRL. I had looked at several early pictures to tell gender and 3 lines is a girl and a little turtle is a boy.  There was definately 3lines and no little turtle  Nothing between her legs....DH said it wasnt his boy LOL :O)  My girlfriend had a scan at 13 weeks and the US tech told her a boy to only 3 weeks later find out a girl.  The US tech saw the cord and not the boy parts.  I guess that is usually where the error is...cord mistaken for boy parts.  If there is nothing there is nothing.  LOL at least I hope so I dont wanna have to take stuff backLOL but I havent bought alot YET :O)

From what I've read, it varies by woman, baby, dr, u/s machine. Sometimes as early as 13-14 wks. The NT scan, if you have one, is supposed to tell pretty early. Most others have said 14-16wks.

it depends on the center...i just had the first trimester screen at a university center.  they happened to be doing a study we participated in trying to see if they can correctly determine gender during the first trimester with 95% accuracy.  If the genital tubercle(sp?) is lining up perpendicular to the spine it is a boy, if parallel then it is a girl.  I also recently read a similar article on medline which predicted gender at 100% during week 13 (it was slightly less from weeks 10-12).  Anways they predicted we are having a girl.  We will find out for sure in september when we have the level 2 u/s if they are correct!

I think we both have to wait about ten weeks to find out - if I remember right I think its at about twenty weeks - I've bought several wonderful books - one is The Pregnancy Bible - and and I know it sounds funny but I bought Pregnancy for Dummies at Barnes and Nobles - it's great!  Very simple and explanatory!
