surprise! Im pregnant.....haha

Hi all..... I turned 40 on the 18th and found out I am pregnant the same day..... what a surprise present. I have a daughter 19 and a son 14, so I am starting over.  However I have a serious question.    I have had 7 spinal surgeries and am Ion vicodin, like many others.  I am down to about 4 a day, and I want to stay on them for the pregnancy. Is there a medical paper I can sign to give to the doctor to still get my scripts? The amount of pain I am in is a 8 daily andrises to a 9 all the time with the nerve damage. Please any help would be greatly apprecialted!!
Thank you

Happy belated birthday to you, and welcome to the forum!  What a great present!  I can't offer any comments to your vicodin question, however, I do suggest you let your doctor know sooner than later, in case these are not safe to take during pregnancy.  He/she will be the best to advise you what alternative meds you can take for pain management.  Congratulations again, and keep us posted.

Here's an article I found....vicodin is Category C, not X

I have no idea about that prescription....maybe you could google it and see what category it is under and if it's category X...they definitely won't give it to you.

Also the vicodin may be an issue with your uterus.  My SIL was taking vicodin for chronic pain and they said that her uterus was too thin and she wasn't able to maintain the pregnancy.  This is something to really discuss with the medical professional that is currently prescribing the medication.

I don't think there is a waiver you can sign, either the doctor will prescribe it or they won't and I know if it's category X they won't want to prescribe it during pregnancy.

Perhaps you should call your OB right away too and get an appt and to discuss the medication you are taking.

Good luck and congratulations!
