???Help

I am over 40.  Me & my husband have been trying to conceive for 10 years.  Lately I have been having symptoms that indicate I am pregnant.  I had a normal period on 2/12/2011; On 3/9 I had what I thought was my period starting because that was the time my period was suppose to start.  The 1st day of bleeding was brown (which is normal when my period is about to begin).  But, the whole day it was brown & light. The next day it was tremendously lighter to only red spotting.  The 3rd day it was even lighter, again just red spotting.  That never happens to me.  I normally know when my period is about to begin because of pre-menstrual symptoms.  This was the 1st time I had no pre-menstrual symptoms.  I have not been under any stress that would alter my period. I am seriously considering I am pregnant.  Then I began having other symptoms such as serious mood swings, increased food cravings & food aversions, mild head aches, mild cramping, excessive saliva, swollen breast.  Although some experience these symptoms when their period is about to begin, but my pre symptoms are food aversions, swollen breast, cramping; ALL mild.  But these symptoms I'm having are increased & occur everyday.  I am not one who will create pregnancy symptoms in my mind because we have been trying for so long; but I cannot ignore what's going on with my body.  I took a blood pregnancy test on 3/14 (2 days after the bleeding stopped) & it came back negative.  The symptoms are still here.  I've read other stories where women have received negative blood pregnancy test in the early stages, but when they took later test, they were actually pregnant.  I know my body & most of these symptoms I experienced during my previous pregnancies.

Have you retested? Did you use a home test (urine) or have blood drawn?

Stress isn't the only reason a period might be exceptionally light...many things can throw the hormones out of wack. Also...not knowing how much over 40 you are...my sister in law started perimenopause at 43...and most of her symptoms were things like mood swings and weird periods...the mood swings got progressively worse until her doctor figured out what was up and put her on some meds.

On the other hand, I have known people who continued to get a negative pregnancy test, had weird short periods....and were pregnant...and carried full term and delivered a healthy baby :) You may want to schedule an appt with your OB/GYN.
