14 weeks, no scan!

Hey, I live in the UK, 14 and a half weeks pregnant with baby number 5 after quite a gap. Anyhoo, I've still not had a scan or a thorough check up, just a few taps on my tummy. I've asked for a referral for a scan as I'm thinking I should've had a dating scan at least? Or am I wrong? I dunno, times change...

If you can all do it naturally then that would be the way to go :) and congrats missi_m on FINALLY getting your scan, wow I'd be super pi55ed at being treated like that, we have a national health system in australia and I'm pretty sure that you wouldnt be left to fall between the cracks like that... sounds like you have a wee character growing in there :)

Aww 18 weeks puts you the same as me almost :-) glad all went well in the scan. Be sweet if its a boy after 4 girls. I'm in two minds on section or natural - I see a delivery specialist on valentines day straight after the 20wk scan so will decide after that.

Thrilled for you that all is well xx

Well I finally had my first scan on Tuesday!!!!

Straight away they said baby looks big, certain things couldn't be checked as they had left it too late. All vitals looked fine at that stage.

Arh, what a show off, as soon as the cameras were on baby was waving, turning, playing peek a boo, wiggling toes and the best part, peddling an invisible bike upside down!!!! The whole room just laughed. A student was able to practice on bump as baby certainly loved the attention. I had a photo taken of baby on the bike ride so to speak LOL

Having four girls I thought I'd ask the question of gender. I'm used to all girls but many feel I'm carrying a lad, even I wonder. All my pregs were vastly different but this one is totally away on another planet!! Anyway, baby was joyfully sat legs a kimbo so we had a peek.... Boys bits or so we thought!! We checked several times and it did look like a boy. We are going to have a look in two weeks time. If its a girl, blimey she has a strange flange LOL

Oh apparently I'm nearly 18 weeks....

I've just gotta decide on natural or c section birth now as I'm high risk plus baby on neo natal urgent list... Decision can wait!!!

I know the snow grinds us all to a stop. So happy you heared a heartbeat bet that  was a relief :) , just wait Tue you get to see the little bump as well as say you've heated it , such a special time. I got to hear mine wed just gone. Took the midwife a while tbf she got rather frustrated and after 15 mins she found it strong as an ox in her words lol, little bugger kicked the Mic then vanished again xx

Will be thinking about on Tuesday :) hugs x

My midwife was dying to find babies heartbeat at 16 weeks - more so than anything else (except texting her son of course!) So strange how they all have different opinions on these things. Really pleased u got to hear the heartbeat its a great feeling :-) know what you mean with the snow at least it shouldn't muck up Tuesday for you x

What a journey Amymarkson!!! Really hope all goes well.....

Arh update is, I finally got my scan appointment, got snowed in and couldn't get a taxi willing enough to drive me!!! I was furious. Bit of snow and the UK hits gridlock. I had to cancel as I don't drive and couldn't get anyone to drive me. I've now gotta go next Tuesday. Fingers crossed.

I managed to see my midwife in the meantime. I asked to listen to the heart beat, she said they don't allow it at 16 weeks but given the circumstances she would do so as long as I understood she may not detect a heartbeat. Good news is she found a very loud heartbeat.

I was relieved as I feel I've been neglected by health professionals. Plus this pregnancy wasn't planned so its taking some getting used to. But baby has a heartbeat woop x

I had the same issue this time around with my gp and scans.....(uk also!). I had twins 18yrs ago and was naturally concerned about having another set due to me being 36 and a huge amount of twins on both sides of the family's. This is my new partners 2 baby he lost his first 8yrs ago at 26weeks. It's a very long sad story and the poor little boy didn't really stand a chance , he had multiple things wrong with him , sad to say the majority could have been prevented if the mother did what she should have done and not neglected the baby while carrying. (we only found out exactly what was wrong with him last Xmas eve) my partner had always belived he had multiple trisomy so ofc we were concerned.
Anyway we went to the gp, explained......she said with an excited and intreaged look on her face...." I will send you for genetic testing and get a scan done asap!"
Great! We thought.....2 weeks later.....nothing....I chased up the geneticist....the doctor put me in for a "pelvic" xray!

Good news is tho alls fine :), 15weeks in bump is great. Mum and Dad no abnormalities everything's looking great. I understand your frustration, hang in there and nag and nag and nag if you have to! They WILL listen in the end......if they don't.....the threat of your local health board finding out should be enough :), gl for your scan ,hugs x

Good news, one of three referrals have gone through. They offered a scan next week but I insisted for this week as ill be almost 17 weeks next week. Its now booked for this Thursday.

I'm still annoyed I've had to beg quarreling professionals for a scan I was entitled to weeks ago.

Really hope baby is ok, thanks for advice ladies x x

Thanks....

Oh the Gp has apparently failed to send a third referral. The midwife clerk is chasing it up. Its like no one wants to check on baby :(

With my first pregnancy I was 14 weeks when I went for my scan (although I thought I was twelve) and was told it was too far on to measure the neck so I had to have bloods at 16 weeks instead. I'm in UK as well and in this pregnancy my midwife has been awful (spent most of my last appointment texting her 18 ur old about him wanting a lift). So I understand the frustration. I hope they phoned u back as promised. Good luck and happy healthy baby dust your way xx

Thanks ladies. I've chased it up yet again, stressedmy concerns and highlighted tthe lack of care on their part. Apparently I should receive a call back today re scan. I'm so cross with the incompetent ppl dealing with my unborns care. I'll keep you posted :) x
