How long should I wait before making any major decisions? Please Help

I went in for my doc appt today. The doc still only saw the gestational sack with no heartbeat or yolk sack. I actually saw light bleeding that came on my p/liner today. He stated that by the u/s I should be around six wks pregn. Said he thinks that a miscarriage will soon take place. stated that I could either have surgery to remove the cyst and have the d &C.  Or I could wait to see if the miscarriage will take place on its own. (Said he never recommend his patients to have surgery unless it a life and death situation). He leaves that up to his patient. Do this sound like a bad pregn to any of you? Have anyone heard of a baby showing up after been six weeks pregn, or should I be seen more by now?  How long should I wait before I make a decision about having the surgery? Thanking each of you in advance for your help and concerns

Thank you, you are so right. God will always have the last say, and he will allow no man to take his Glory. My doctor did say that I had a fibroid and a Cyst. So I will wait it out, and try not to think so much. Did your miscarriage take place on its own, or did you have to have an d & c?

Personally I'd wait.  with my last pregnancy they didn't see much of nothing until my 8th week, and if you read my old posts from last year, I had an U/S done almost every 5 days or so, and they didn't hear a heartbeat until almost my 9th week.  Now I ended up miscarrying, BUT it was due to fibroids, and fibroids only, so as long as you're not in pain, I'd wait, you just never know.  Several ladies on this forum was told that their pregnancy wasn't viable, only to go on and have HEALTHY babies.......so it's up to the man above, NOT the docs............

i'm so sorry I think I'd wait at least 2 weeks to see if it will pass on it's own.   I've had 2 MC's and the first I didn't get a D&C but the second the DR said it's best to make sure there isn't any left over......but I would first see if it passes on it's onw this is just my opinion....Sorry again for your loss.

I know nothing about the new doctor I am suppose to see on thursday; I looked through the phone book and founded him. The doctor I am seeing now has been my doctor for the last past seven yrs. (And all of my friends use him as well). I never experience this with him. With every other pregn I have had he did bloodwork, u/s etc. However, with this pregn because he is not seeing any growth he is just so sure that a miscarriage is taking place. He keep telling me that the gestational sack is not progressing. However, he did think that I was further in the pregn then I actionly am.  I started to just go back to the ER since they were the ones who I went to first. They  did every test that needed to be done, as well as found the bleeding around my sack.  They were the ones who put me on bedrest in the beginning, and told me if I saw any bleeding to only go from the bed to the bathroom. What do you ladies think I should do? Should I just go back to the ER and see if they are saying the same thing? Or should I try the new doctor on Thursday? I am staying prayerful and hopeful, and whatever happens to God be the Glory. Thanks Ladies.

Your blood work and HCG level counts would tell a lot more than what an early ultrasound can. For example, I had an HCG level blood draw done when I found out I was pregnant. From the blood draw, they could determine I was about 5 1/2 weeks. We then waited a few more weeks to do an ultrasound to make sure baby was big enough to see clearly on the ultrasound. Your doctor should be doing this for you too. Your doctor could at least be taking blood every few days to ensure your HCG levels are rising appropriately. Instead of just saying that he's not sure what's going on.

Is this new doctor different than the one who won't do bloodwork? I hope so. If not, you might want to ask around and see who your friends recommend for an ob/gyn. It's so much more comforting when you have a good doctor you can rely on. Best wishes.

Hi:

Sorry you're going through this.  I've heard stories from several women on this board who have seen nothing on the ultrasound early on (like 6-7 weeks), then the baby appeard in a week or two.

You usually should see SOMETHING other than a sac at 6 weeks, but ultrasounds are not perfect.  My RE says the beginning of 6 weeks is when you can start seeing the heartbeat, and definitely by 6 1/2 weeks.  My OB says by 7 weeks and won't do anything until 8 weeks.

What was your sac measuring?

Hang in there, and keep us posted.

I agree that you should get bloodwork, and I am pretty much hating your doctor, too.

Yes, I am going to keep the app with the new doctor for thursday. The only days I had intercourse in Jan was the 17, 18, & 19. Haven't had any intercourse since. My husband, and  I was scared to even try with all the problems I have been having lately. I  will demand bloodwork when I see the new doctor on thurs. Can you see anything at six weeks of pregn?

ARgh...your doctor is really pissing me off...what does he care if you do bloodwork...have you kept your appt with your other doctor this Thursday...please demand bloodwork...at this point of the pregnancy u/s can't be counted on...

okay so the EARLIEST you coudl have gotten pregnant is Jan 17...but coudl you have gotten pregnant afterward? when did you first know you were pregnant? then we coudl possibly count backwards...

I still say hang in there and DEMAND bloodtests...I am so sorry...the bleeding does worry me but as you say it could be from your tear... I HATE YOUR DOCTOR...sorry...

My doctor haven't  done any blood work. When I questioning him about doing the blood work, he stated that he could tell more about what was going on with the u/s then he could the blood work. Should I be having any symptoms by now? I don't understand why is it that he is so sure that I will miscarriage.

That's what I was thinking too. If you are only 6 weeks from your last cycle, baby might be too small yet to show up on an ultrasound. You may want to wait a few weeks to give baby a chance to grow and show up on the ultrasound. Is your doctor taking blood tests to monitor your HCG levels? If your levels continue to increase, chances are good that baby is okay.

My doctor has done four internal ultrasound, and one external u/s. As of this morning I am seeing dry red blood with very small baby clots that occasionly turn back to brown. There are still no cramps with the bleeding. I believe the bleeding is from the tear that the tech saw around my sack during my first internal u/s at the ER.  Which, he stated that I was bleeding around the sack, but there was nothing that could be done about this. Just if I see blood go straight to bed rest.  I am a little puzzled on counting from my dates. Since the first day of my last cycle was around Dec 17, 2007.  But I didn't have intercourse until Jan 17, 2008. So that have me a little puzzle in my counting. Do I count from the day of intercourse,  Or from the day of my last cycle?  Although I did give my doctors these dates; he still say that this still does not look like a good pregn to him. Feels that even thou I didn't have intercourse until the 17teenth of Jan. We should be seeing more than a gestational sack by now. If anybody has gone, or know someone who has experience this please give me feed back. As of today I have had six TransVag UltraSound done. The reason why is because I had a bad ectopics pregn back in Feb of 2005, and they needed to make sure this baby was in the right place. During that surgery I did lose one of my tubes.  Thanks

Did your doctor do an internal or external ultrasound? At six weeks it's kind of a gray zone especially depending if he was counting from LMP or ovulation.

Six weeks from your last cycle, or six weeks from ovulation?
