How to ask for help?

I've been on strict bed rest for the last 8 weeks and still 10 more to go. Only very few of my friends have visited or call/msgd to check on me and everyone just says 'let me know if you have any cravings or need anything'. I don't have cravings but I wished they could just bring something without me asking...
Question is, how can I tell them yes, please come and get me some food or come and give us a hand cleaning the house?

Hmmmmmm reach out to these people you call friends. If they don't respond you may want to reconsider your friendship! They should be there for you threw thick and thin! What about religious group or affiliates? Often times those you least expect are more than willing to go above and beyond! As far as the cleaning company, could you leave laundry, bathrooms and some more chores so the money isn't wasted? Whomever is currently doing those chores can be released of that burden to assist with the stuff your looking for friends to do!

Thanks for the advise, I just feel that when people say let me know if you need anything it's more of a phrase rather than a true offering, like when we meet people and ask how are you doing? And we don't really mean to know how they are...
We hired a cleaning company a few weeks back but they come for a min of 3hrs, most of the time we just need to clean the kitchen and floors, so 3hrs go to waste :(
Besides, I wished friends could just come to give me company now that I'm in this situation but when I don't see that interest is when I feel even more embarrassed to ask for any help...

I agree with above real friends will do whatever U ask of them no question. I don't know what state UR n but I'm n ny and on the sight livingSocial they have house cleaning services for cheap 2 hrs is like $60-75 I've used them n they were good. They use whatever supplies U want them to and were very friendly n professional. I was in bed rest for 2 weeks was a great help good luck.

If they truly mean it and are good friends they will help out without question. There is some stores near me that you can order online and have delivered to home for a fee such as price chopper and Shoprite. Maybe u could ask them to come put away or prepare a few meals.

I guess just tell them straight forward do this  do that bring such and such if they are offering their help they won't back up.  good luck Jun.
