Stress and Vaginal Irritation

Hi ladies,

please share.

I have been having burning pain down there since I  had my baby 4 months ago (well actually since before she was born).  First my doc said it was candida, and was giving me antifungals for nearly 3 months. She did do examination and said it looked inflammed and there was some signs of chronic inflammation. Anyway, three weeks ago we did fungal culture which came back negative today.

Now today she's saying it is just a nervous condition. She didn't do examination so I don't know if it's still inflammed, but it feels like it is.  Anyway she prescribed an oestrogen cream, but I checked the containdications and breastfeeding is contraindicated.  I am still breastfeeding and not ready to stop so I can't take that.

Anyway, why prescribe an oestrogen cream for something that is just a nervous condition.  Does this sound right?  I am not feeling good about all of this.

Don't know where else to post this or where to get advice or what?

Hi,

I've been on antifungals on and off for the past 4 months.  Currently on weekly diflucan.  They did pap. It was ok, except for showing chronic inflammation (another indication it's not stress)....

Thanks.  Yes, I think another opinion recommended.

I swim several times a week.... Have been doing so for years....

Thanks again....

I would get a second opinion too. Did your doctor take any samples before you went on antifungals? If you were on them for 3 months then the doctor took a sample of course the sample would be negative?

I personnally would want a pap test and get everything tested for - STI's (sexually transmitted infections) - human papiloma virus (HPV) is so common especially during pregnancy- etc. So many things cause burning and not all cases can so easily be diagnosised just by a visual exam. Not all cases are text book examples.

Have your been swimming lately?

Definately get a second opinion!

I would go for a second opinion at another OB/GYN.  If it is psychogenic regional pain, I would then consult a mental health specialist.  Dr. Sarno writes about it and back pain, but it is basically the same physiology anywhere in the body.
