Has she tried taking an ovulation test or chart her basal body temperature?
I am 41 and pregnant. I used femara. Femara often has better results in older women and less impact on cervical mucous.
Definitely do HSG test. You want to be sure her tubes are open. IF not you would need to move straight to IVF.
Best wishes.
The comments Mommyof12 made are excellent points. Often, clomid is contraindicated for those of us in our late 30's and 40's. I took it for a while, and had luck conceiving after I went off of it.
I would like to expand on her comments about PreSeed though. It is a bit controversial. I used it faithfully and swore by it. However, my RE has suggested not using it as she does not like the idea of introducing anything "extra" due to an already increased risk of miscarriage. Some love it, I no longer use it on her advice. I do however use the Robitussin. If you are going to use Robitussin, ensure you do your homework and use the right type. It's important that the only active ingredient be guaifesesin, and that it be used at the correct time in her cycle. It sure helps increase that cervical mucus though.
I have had a hsg as well and it is not bad at all. I have had a baby at 41 and am now pregnant at 43. you never know what god has planned for us. also taking clomid at our age can hurt conception due to lack of cervical mucous from the clomid. ask your doc about side effects or google it. maybe try using preseed you can also have your wife take robitussin with guaifenesin to help increase cervical mucous.
Good luck!

I did naturally conceive and have a child in my 40s. I also had an HSG, and although certainly uncomfortable, it is not overly painful. It is a good idea I think, as if her tubes are opened, there may not be any reason to go through an expensive insemination procedure. IVF is typically only recommended for women who cannot conceive (ie: blocked tubes), and in all honesty, most RE's will not do IVF on women in their 40's if they are using their own eggs. This is because even if we are still ovulating, we have a much higher risk of a pregnancy not being successful.
I am NOT discouraging you at all. I had a baby at almost 41, and now at almost 43 am trying again. We have many women come through here in their 40's pregnant and all is just fine. But I do think testing to know exactly what your dealing with is best. That's what I did, and it aided in the decision making process. Best of luck to you.
We haven't been together before marriage. So we have had ttc about 2.5 months only. All of the tests we named, we just made recently. Due to our age factor we don't want to waste any time. Thanks for your advise. We would also appreciate advise from a doctor.
Hi there
You say you have been recently married but haven't said how long you have been ttc? I would imagine its a lot longer than 3 months due to all the tests you have had as they dont normally test until you have been trying for at least a year.
Well if you don't have the test then you could waste more time ttc when your wife has maybe two blocked tubes. You know there could be a problem and you know it isn't you so this is a big possibility. At least if you have the test you can go straight to ivf if there is no way of concieving naturally instead of wasting more precious time.
Good luck with ttc whatever way you decide to go and I hope you get the outcome you both wish for.
Mind you if the test is a little bit painful it will prepare her a bit for the pain of giving birth. I am sorry I can't say for sure how the test feels as I have not had it myself maybe some others will come on and reassure you who have been through the test themselves.
