Antivert and Pregnancy

I'm going to try to make a long story short here.  Last week on Wednesday I woke up and experienced some vertigo for about 5 minutes.  Just the spinning, not the nausea or anything else.  I had another small episode Thursday morning and decided to go to the doctor.  She wanted to put me on a medication called antivert which is a no no during pregnancy.  I told her that I was ttc and that I didn't want to take anything that would be bad for a baby until I knew for sure whether or not I was pregnant as I am in my ttw.  She asked me when my lmp was and I told her it was 11/17 and that I most likely ovualted on 11/28-11-30 and that I thought it would be too early to test even beta and get a positive since it was only 12/2.  She said that I didn't know that because my last period may not have been normal and I could get a positive.  I will acknowledge that she is technically correct, but I know that isn't the case.  She insisted on do the beta which came back negative as I knew it would.  When it came back negative she said I should start taking the antivert.  I haven't taken it and I am not going to until I am 100% sure I am not pregnanct, but I guess my question is, am I wrong?  Would a beta come back positive that early.  I always thought it needed to be closer to AF to be accurate.  AF isn't due for me until 12/13 approximately.

Yeah, it seems a bit irresponsible to me as well.  It bothers me a bit too that your legitimate concerns were sort of brushed off.

I also think it's a bad idea to ignore the problem, so a second opinion is the perfect way to go.  I hope that Dr. is a bit more sensitive.  Good luck.

Thanks.  That is kind of what I was thinking too so I haven't taken it.  I think I'm going to see a different doctor.  It seems pretty irresponsible to me that she would act as if it isn't possible that I got a negative and could still be pregnant this cycle, but she is a doctor so I was second guessing myself.

The time implantation takes is a bit different every pregnancy.  It can be anywhere from 5-10 days.  I believe the average is about 8, and that is when HCG is produced. So, technically it could have come back positive, but just because it's negative I wouldn't take to mean not pregnant.  I am not certain how long your cycles are, but assuming they are around 28 days, your next af wouldn't be due until around the 12th or so, correct?  It's only been a week since ovulation.  I am really surprised she is taking that to be definitive that you are not pregnant. Besides, even if you are not pregnant this cycle, what about next? How long are you supposed to be on the antivert?  Surely there are other medications that will work that are safer during pregnancy.  There are almost always alternatives.
